When I lost my job in a financial institution in 2014, I got a job as a marketer in a laundry shop in Enugu.

The owner had offices scattered around Enugu, and he was dating his secretary even though he was married. I had caught both of them in the act once.

Everyone in the company knew. The man was also fond of slapping his staff over any little mistake.

Poverty is wicked.

Then one day I misplaced the office sugline as I went out for marketing. When I returned, I told the admin what happened. He called the owner and he came.

He said the lost phone would be deducted from my salary. Then, as he was about to leave, he raised his hand to slap me because I was new.

I told him, “Oga, that’s not part of my job description. If you dare do it, you won’t like your face.”

Right from there, he asked me to remove the office uniform, and I went home that month with no salary. Sacked.

Today, I am now Oga of my own, with over 15 staff.
His shops have closed down in Enugu. The last time I saw him, he was eating at the same place I eat.
I don’t know what happened to his business.
But he is still a big man.
