Even though I didn't study and was a bad student, I have been using Japanese on a daily basis for 10 years and feel really comfortable with it now. Language learning is not a race and you don't have to aim to be fluent in 1-3 years to make language learning worth while.
When you touch something hot, you feel pain: this is your body trying to save your hand from being damaged beyond repair. Boredom is intellectual pain. Boredom is your body's way of telling you to change the situation. Ignore it to your own detriment.
"readers should put down difficult books immediately if they are not enjoying them." [Can't get into highbrow novels? Ditch them, says Nick Hornby - Telegraph] https://t.co/0ZItEC5TG6
I finished かなしきデブ猫ちゃん, it tells the story of a cat who goes on an adventure all around Ehime prefecture. The book is written by Kazumasa Hayami and illustrated by Karin Kano. The story is really nice, the book has full furigana and the illustrations are adorable 🥰

Should one finish every book one begins? “You might as well resolute that whatever men (sic) you happen to get acquainted with, you are to keep them for life.” Samuel Johnson: Susan Ohanian, Books Day by Day.
Book review: 『逃げるな新人外科医』 by Yujiro Nakayama. I really recommend this book and the first one, 泣くな研修医. It is medical fiction, but it is not difficult to read. Both books are super engrossing, and I learnt a lot through them. https://t.co/EcMLYlIDVJ
Next book review is up: An everyday fantasy / magical realism slice of life novel set in early 20th century Kyoto. My favourite of 2021 so far!

I know a lot of people don’t like reading children’s books in their TL but tbh I love it. It’s cute! It’s easy! Builds my confidence so that I can then move on to more complex stuff! I’ll always start with children’s content
New book review up for 青くて痛くて脆い Blue, Painful, Fragile by Sumino Yoru 住野よる! Good book to pick up if you are interested in learning more about the lifestyle of Japanese university students.

Thoughts on reading 📚 in Japanese after 1 year:
After studying basic Japanese for roughly 1.5 years, I can read comfortably, if a bit slowly, with the occasional aid of a dictionary. I've managed to finish 35 novels/light novels, with plenty of manga sandwiched in between.
