@bfcarlson Major countries with long histories of civilization inevitably face consequences when modernizing. Many paid high prices. A period of societal consolidation after 45 years of rapid economic growth may be necessary to transition into a more balanced development.
Like many of you, I am shocked with Asian hate crime in the US, but much more so I am by the prevalent dehumanizing discourse around China the country and it’s economy and people. Every article, speech etc, assumes that WTO membership was a favor granted and now only poverty awaits. Making abstraction of the Chinese ingenuity and the blood and sweat and sacrifices that lifted that economy and will lift it again is a form of hateful miscalculation. Behind the abstract economic data there are dexterous people that worked hard, and will continue to do so.
Very thankful to Mr. Bass for consistently generating good opportunities in an otherwise boring market. Without Mr. Bass, the HKD market will never be the same again.
Wish him the very best in raising new funds!
The single best report I’ve read on the US chips blockade against China—a strong overview of the issue but more important, it cuts through technical issues to show the true significance.
The US is telling China to accept defeat or go to war.

@michaelxpettis This piece begs one crucial question in the international trade system? That is what motivates countries to work so hard to export valuable goods for claims on financial assets that are potentially worthless. What is wrong with the incentive arrangement?
@kittysquiddy Thank you Alex! So excited to join your group. Also thank you folks for the warm welcome! Not very experienced with Twritter yet, still finding my way here and learn how this group chat works.
1/ The impact of U.S. chip export controls towards China is more human than tech: @WSJ combed thru corporate filings to identify 43 American senior executives in 16 listed Chinese chip firms.
They now have to chose between their citizenship & for some, the startups they founded.
One of my all-time favourites. Stare at the red dot on the woman's nose for 30 seconds, then look at an empty wall while blinking quickly. Promise it's worth it... https://t.co/jsmr9VtTjj
@JesslovesMJK Reason for the shocking chart might be simply a massive increase in the sample size. Majority of the population got vaxx in 2021, and all the medical problems of that population got reported without substantiated links to vaxx. Please show the ratios to the sample size instead
