Happy Pride Month everybody! We should all be reading 🏳️🌈📚 all year long & there’s lots of AMAZING Kids, MG, & YA content to choose from! Today begins 30 recs in 30 days featuring some of my favorite 🏳️🌈 reads in the past year. I hope you enjoy and happy reading! 😊❤️🏳️🌈📚
1. On the Line, by @pauljcoccia & @EricRWalters is a MUST READ! The characters are perfectly imperfect & I think the story will resonate with many MG readers. Plus, Paul & Eric are fine people who write with utmost respect for their audience. I love them & their books! ❤️🇨🇦🏳️🌈📚
2. This one for the YA crowd will blow your mind! Howl, by @ShaunieDarko is such a smart horror novel! I didn’t know if what was happening to Virgil was real or metaphorical, but what I do know is that I felt every bit of his journey to the core! So raw. So perfect. ❤️🏳️🌈🐺📚
3. The Pronoun Book, by Cassandra Jules Corrigan and @jmiltondraws is geared towards young readers but is honestly so helpful for anyone wanting to learn more about pronoun etiquette. This book is so friendly! Narrators, Ellie and Casey, are genuinely kind and welcoming. 🥰❤️🏳️🌈📚
4. If loyal friends, laughter, and magic are what you need, So This is Ever After, by @ftlukens is the YA novel you need in your life RIGHT NOW! I read it in one sitting! And can we just send some love to @sam_schechter & @BookDesignBee for the gorgeous cover? Stunning! 🥰❤️🏳️🌈📚
5. This picture book by @jarrettdapier & @AndreaTsurumi is pure chaos & fun! Mr. Nelson doesn’t mind Mr. Watson’s chicken collection, but when the collection reaches 🐓x456, they decide it’s a bit much. And, if 456 🐓s in a house is too much, imagine a 456 🐓escape!😳😂❤️🏳️🌈🐓📚
6. Oh, my book loving ❤️, this book is simply gorgeous! Bastian and Lore swept me up in their magic from the start and @LaAnnaMarie’s author note describing their reading journey at the end is so beautiful! Easily one of my favorite reads of the year! ❤️🏳️🌈📚
7. I loved this book by @malindalo so much I intentionally slowed down my reading pace to make it last longer! I did not want to leave these characters, I was so invested in their journey! This is YA historical fiction at its absolute finest! ❤️🏳️🌈📚
8. This MG novel, by @calondon is non-stop, exhilarating, high adrenaline, page turning, ridiculously engaging action from start to finish! Love the characters! Love the battles! Love how deep and sensitive the underlying themes run! Can't wait for book two! ❤️🏳️🌈📚
9. @ryality has written a YA novel that is both stunningly gorgeous and scary as hell! The Honeys had me hooked from page one when I thought that Mars was caught in a nightmare. When I learned in chapter two that chapter one really happened…😳😱🫣🐝! Due Aug/22. ❤️🏳️🌈📚
10. I loved this YA novel by @toblymcsmith and I think teens, especially the theatre kids, will love it too! 🤩🤩🤩 My big wish, after reading this book, is for all kids and young adults to have an Aunt Lil in their lives who will love them unconditionally! ❤️🍍🍍🍍🍍❤️🏳️⚧️📚
11. I really hope @rchllipp and @Alysonderrick write more books together because the chemistry in their new YA novel, She Gets the Girl, is electric! YA readers are going to love this book which is equal parts cute, funny, romantic, heartbreaking, and hopeful. 😊❤️🏳️🌈🛼📚
12. This adorable picture book tells Rob Kearney’s journey to embracing his true self, breaking gender stereotypes, & becoming the first openly gay strong professional strongman! Co-authored by @LGBT_Activist & illustrated by @nidhiart, this book is a real gem! I loved it! ❤️🏳️🌈📚
13.Picture books bring me joy, so here’s another 🏳️🌈📚 pick for you! This adorable little number by @msmazeppa & @petiteturk is full of love, fun & inclusion! It's a great reminder that we are not limited by our gender or the stereotypes that try to define us. 😊❤️🏳️🌈📚
14. I dropped everything when this book came out so I could check in on Ben & Arthur in this sequel to What if It’s Us, by @beckyalbertalli & @AdamSilvera. This book is so cute! Such a fun read, bursting with love, laughs, & joy! Everything YA readers need right now! 😊❤️🏳️🌈📚
15. Black ooze, zombie-like creatures, and characters running for their lives…Aaaaaaaah!!!🫣😱😧 Striving teen readers are going to love this edge of your seat thriller by @TashMcAdam. It’s a quick read at 78 pages but, honestly, that’s all the scare my heart could handle!❤️🏳️🌈📚
16. Llama Glamarama, by @simonjamesgreen and @ICanDrawDinos is a MUST ADD to your Pride picture book collection, if you don’t own a copy already! Full of fun rhymes & fabulous illustrations, this sparkly little number encourages us to accept and love ourselves and others! ❤️🏳️🌈📚
17. @adibkhorram has gifted YA readers with a Canadian boy band!🤩❤️🇨🇦🎤 A CANADIAN boy band was enough to hook me, but if you need a bit more, think rising stardom, a complicated break-up, and the beginnings of a new relationship, all evolving under a very nosy public eye.❤️🏳️🌈📚
