My son Jack was diagnosed with autism when he was eighteen months old.

He went to an integrated preschool.

He was referred out of district in sixth grade.

He graduated from a very small high school.

Three years ago, after a year in a community with a lot of support, Jack was accepted into college.

Yesterday, I offered to share our story with a major online platform. They declined. They said they are only interested in traditional success stories.

What is this, I thought, if not a success story?

It's not a pretty story, that's true. It's not traditional.

It's not a s story wrapped up in a perfect GPA or glowing recommendations.

It's a story about a boy, a diagnosis, and a whole lot of grit and determination.

Get real it already is all three of my grandchildren have never written in cursive and they’re in their late 20s and early 30s. My grandson writes with a stylized printing and he has numerous masters degrees. Individuality is out the door.
