An incredible legacy from Mike Ditka

[Pat McAfee @PatMcAfeeShow]

"Mike Ditka appeared on Mike & Mike every Monday for at least 15 years & we got to know him extraordinarily well..

He was as Mike Ditka in private as he was in person..

He had the biggest heart of anyone you could possibly come across" ~ @Espngreeny #PMSLive

As the head coach of the Bears from 1982 to 1992, Mike Ditka compiled a 15–5 record against the Green Bay Packers, which included a streak of eight consecutive wins from 1985 to 1988.

There will be a formal pregame tribute/moment of silence this weekend at Lambeau Field.

ONE OF THE GREATEST QUOTES EVER.

“Losers quit when they’re tired. Winners quit when they’ve won.”

Player. Coach. Legend.

Mike Ditka embodied the spirit of Chicago and will be deeply missed.

[Barack Obama @BarackObama]

When I got to Chicago in the summer of 1985, Mike Ditka and the Chicago Bears were king. Coach Ditka set the tone for a team that was punishing, dominant, and fun — and the city loved him for it. I'm thinking of the Ditka family and Bears fans everywhere on the passing of a legend.

[Super 70s Sports @Super70sSports]

Super Sky Point to Mike Ditka. I moved to Chicago in 2003, over a decade after “Da Coach” prowled the sidelines at Soldier Field for the final time. Yet his presence has always felt current. He arrived in 1961, a crew cut chunk of granite who hauled in a dozen touchdowns as a Pro Bowl rookie tight end. A quarter of a century later, he was carried off the field in glory at Super Bowl XX. Four decades later, his shadow casts large as ever over the banks of Lake Michigan as the only Bears head coach to ever hoist that precious Lombardi.

He’s beloved in this town for many reasons. Because he always said what he meant and meant what he said - even if sometimes he shouldn’t have said it. Because he loved the common man. Because even when he was an asshole, he was OUR asshole. Walter Payton is the greatest Bear. Dick Butkus is the most violent. George Halas will always be Papa Bear. But no one, and I mean no one, better represents what it means to be a Chicago Bear, or a Chicago Bears fan, than Mike Fucking Ditka. St. Peter, grab a helmet, because today he’s young again. #RIP

MIKE DIKTA HAD ONE OF THE MOST ELECTRIC HIGHLIGHT REELS IN #NFL HISTORY.

Rest in peace to an icon and trailblazer of the tight end position.
