Saw this and immediately thought about how easy it is to design for the happy path.
In fintech, every side effect like cashback, rewards, referrals, or wallet credits should have a corresponding compensation flow when a transaction gets reversed.
The real engineering happens in the edge cases.

Most engineers think they’re building features.
They’re actually building policies.
Every button becomes a business rule.
Every payment becomes an accounting problem.
Every notification becomes a customer expectation.
Every admin action becomes something that should probably be audited.
The more complex the product, the less code becomes the hard part.
The hard part is making sure the business behaves correctly.
I’ve noticed something about myself.
Whenever I run into a problem, I don’t spend much time complaining about it.
My mind immediately starts asking questions.
Why does this happen?
Can it be automated?
Can the number of steps be reduced?
Is this a problem only I have, or are thousands of other people dealing with the same thing?
Sometimes I never build anything.
But I’ve realized most of my best ideas didn’t come from trying to build a startup.
They came from refusing to accept unnecessary friction.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in software engineering:
The best code isn’t the most clever. It’s the code your teammates can understand, maintain, and improve six months later.
Simple beats clever.
What’s an engineering opinion you’ve changed your mind about?
@yabaleftonline@OPay_NG I’ve reported this multiple tmes, but instead of a clear resolution, I’ve been getting inconsistent responses while my money remains unavailable.
I really expected better from a financial institution. Please escalate this and resolve my case as soon as possible. I’ve been patient
@yabaleftonline I’m honestly disappointed with the way @OPay_NG has handled my issue.
I made a card payment, my account was debited, but the transaction never got to the merchant. The merchant confirmed they didn’t receive the payment and advised me to contact OPay.
