Born #onthisday 1819 George Denman, Liberal MP Tiverton 1859-65 & 1866-72. Rowed twice for Cambridge in the Boat Race. He left the Commons when appointed as a judge. According to one account, ‘He looked a model Judge. But he was never quite so good a Judge as he looked’ @Born1819

Our final #Born1819 tweet marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hugh McCalmont Cairns (later Lord Cairns). He was Conservative MP for Belfast 1852-66. In the Lords he served as lord chancellor, 1868 and 1874-80. He died in 1885. @Born1819 Image © NPG.

Today marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ambrose Lethbridge Goddard, MP Cricklade 1847-68 & 1874-80. His father, also Ambrose, had sat for the same constituency, 1837-41. The family were lords of the manor of Swindon. #Born1819 @Born1819
