USA. A breakfast counter. The waitress recommended the biscuits and gravy, and when the plate arrived, I thought something had gone wrong in the kitchen.

I say this with shame. The dish looked like a construction site after rain. Pale mounds. Gray ladle-fall. Speckles I could not identify.

In my land, the eye eats first. A meal is arranged like a garden. This meal was arranged like weather.

"Is it… finished?" I asked, carefully.

"Honey, that's what it looks like."

The man beside me was already eating his. He did not look up. "Just try it."

I am a man who has charged hillsides at dawn. I raised the fork. I tried it.

I must now formally apologize to the biscuits, the gravy, the waitress, the kitchen, and the entire breakfast tradition of the American South.

It was magnificent. Warm. Peppered. The biscuit drank the gravy the way a field drinks rain — THAT is why it is shaped like that, you fool — and every mound I had insulted was a soft fold of comfort that my homeland, in eight hundred years, never once thought to invent.

"Well?" the waitress asked.

"I judged it," I confessed. "By its appearance. I am ashamed."

"Everybody does, hon."

Everybody does. A national dish that forgives you for doubting it. It expects the doubt. It waits for you on the other side of it.

Do not judge the gravy by its face. Judge yourself, for hesitating.

I order it every Saturday now. I no longer see the construction site. I see only the garden.

It was a garden the whole time. The eye must be trained.

This clip of Charles Payne during Obama's second term is really incredible. Well done Charles.

In 2010 Obama put the federal government directly in charge of lending money to students. Eliminating private lending made the loans much easier to get, but they were not less expensive.

Before Obama took office, outstanding student debt was less than $100 billion. By 2015, outstanding student debt was approximately $800 billion and almost a third of the borrowers were in default. Of course the price of college continued to soar the entire time.

This is the best part. Payne predicted that someday the politicians would be promising to forgive student debt as a way to buy votes. He was spot on.

There are people like Ro Khanna on this site right now arguing that Elon Musk should be paying down the student debt when it's a problem that politicians created.

General Omar Bradley called it the most dangerous mission of D-Day. He was not wrong.

At 6:30am on June 6, 1944, 225 Army Rangers approached a 100-foot sheer cliff face on the Normandy coast called Pointe du Hoc.

Their mission: climb it.

The cliff was vertical. The Germans were at the top with full visibility of everyone below. As the Rangers fired grappling hooks upward, the Germans cut the ropes. Shot the men hanging on them. Dropped grenades over the edge onto the climbers beneath.

The Rangers kept climbing.

It took roughly 40 minutes. Men fell. Men were shot off the ropes. The ones behind them grabbed the ropes and kept going.

They reached the top.

Then came the gut punch: the massive 155mm artillery guns they had been sent to destroy were gone. The Germans had moved them inland before the invasion. The entire mission had been sent to destroy guns that weren't there.

Most commanders would have regrouped and called it done.

The Rangers fanned out. Two miles inland, they found the guns, hidden in an orchard, already aimed at Utah Beach and loaded to fire. They destroyed every one with thermite grenades.

Then they dug in. Cut off, with almost no ammunition, no reinforcements, and no resupply, 225 men held Pointe du Hoc against relentless German counterattacks for two full days.

When relief finally arrived, only 90 Rangers could still stand and fight.

Their names are carved on a memorial in Normandy. Most Americans today cannot name a single one.

🇺🇸 Most Badass Americans You Don’t Know D-Day Edition: John J. Pinder Jr.

Technician Fifth Grade John J. Pinder Jr. landed on Omaha beach on his birthday. He didn’t make it off.

Born June 6, 1912, in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, Joe Pinder was the oldest of three children. His father worked in the steel industry.

He graduated as valedictorian of Butler High School in 1931.

Pinder spent the next several years as a right-handed pitcher in the minor leagues.

He played six seasons in the farm systems of the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, Washington Senators, and Brooklyn Dodgers.

In 1941 he won 17 games and was still chasing a shot at the major leagues when the war came.

He entered the Army in January 1942 after Pearl Harbor.

Assigned as a radio operator with the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, he fought in North Africa and Sicily.

In Sicily he earned a Bronze Star for staying at an observation post under fire.

On June 6, 1944, Pinder landed with the first waves on Omaha Beach on his birthday.

Communications were shattered. His job was to get a working radio ashore.

He made it off the landing craft. They were 100 yards off the beach.

Then he was hit. A round tore into his face after only a few steps off the boat.

Pinder held the torn flesh of his face together with one hand, carried the radio with the other, and delivered the radio to his unit, while wading thru waste deep water.

That should have been enough. It wasn’t.

Weakened and bleeding, he turned around and went back into the surf and fire three more times to salvage communication equipment.

He even recovered another workable radio.

On the third trip machine gun fire hit him again, this time in the legs.

Still he kept going.

Weakening but exposed on the beach, he helped get the radios working so the men around him could call for support.

While doing so, he was hit for the third time and killed.

Medal of Honor. Posthumous.

It was presented to his father on January 26, 1945.

Pinder was initially buried in Normandy.

In 1947 his family brought him home to Grandview Cemetery in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania.

He was the only professional baseball player awarded the Medal of Honor in World War II.

>Submit biometrics, pass a background check
>No felony convictions

You get work authorization + travel authorization + deferred removal for 7 years

After completing the 7-year program (paying $7,000 total in fees, staying employed, obeying laws, paying back taxes):

We grant you:
> "Dignity Status" which is essentially a lawful nonimmigrant status, which is renewable any number of times
>Work and travel authorization

But the most important bit that you're hiding here is that it totally suspends deportation of anyone who qualifies for this.

This would effective end ALL MASS DEPORTATIONS in the United States immediately.
