BTS didn't refuse in an ordinary year. They refused in the year the Recording Academy was supposed to present Disney with the Grammys' global future.

"The best is yet to come," Harvey Mason jr. said in May 2026 as the Academy unveiled the first Grammys broadcast of its new Disney era. The ten-year deal had been announced in October 2024 and was due to begin in 2027. In July 2026, BTS declined to submit their music for the first ceremony under that deal.

The Academy had sold Disney a decade-long global media product. BTS exposed its limits before the first broadcast.

👀 Namjoon just posted Marcel Duchamp’s L.H.O.O.Q., in his IG Stories, now displayed at MoMA NY until August 22, must have visited! But I think there’s more to this than a museum photo 🤭

Backstory: Duchamp took a cheap postcard of the Mona Lisa and drew a mustache on it. He pioneered the idea of the “Readymade”, taking an ordinary object and simply designating it as art. Duchamp’s message? Art isn’t defined by a manual, canvas, or a museum wall. He believed it lives in the concept, the intention, and the relationship with the audience.

Bringing it back to the present… who comes to mind as an artist who needs no institutional validation? their art, and the way it moves millions, already speaks for itself? 🫶
