Beautiful reflection by Pope Leo XIV on the Greatest Commandment:
“Christ places love at the very center of our relationship with God. Indeed, it is not enough to know that God exists, that he is the only God, or that he is the Almighty. The Lord seeks a personal relationship with us: the one true God wants to become our God.
In our encounter with him, the commandment of love is neither an obligation nor an imposition. Indeed, one cannot love “on command.” Love for God is the very essence of human desire, which finds its fulfillment in communion with him. For this reason, our love can be authentic only when it is a response to his love, which always precedes us. From this arises the need for a total commitment that involves the whole person: heart, soul and mind.
To the first commandment, the Lord adds a second: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”. This rule of life springs from the same source; that is why Jesus says that it is similar to the first. Thanks to our close relationship with God, we are able to look at ourselves and our neighbors through the eyes of Christ, from his perspective. In this way, selfishness is overcome and even love for oneself becomes charity: our existence turns toward the other and becomes a gift for those around us.
Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus understood this well: “Love alone,” she wrote, makes “the Church’s members act, and if Love ever became extinct, apostles would not preach the Gospel”. Indeed, without love, our faith would be deprived of its essence, our good works would be reduced to mere moralism, and our hope would be in vain.
Dear friends, we cannot truly love God unless this love overflows into love for our brothers and sisters. And we cannot truly love our neighbor except as children of the same Father who loved us first in his Son, Jesus.
Let us ask the Lord for the grace of a new heart, capable of embracing and living out the greatest of all commandments. May the Blessed Virgin Mary intercede for us, in whose Immaculate Heart there is nothing but love.”
Our Pope is recovering and we should always pray for him for good health.
Prayer helps him stay strong as he gets better each day. Many Catholics are asking God to bless him with peace and energy. We can remember him in our daily prayers at home or in church. His recovery reminds us to care for one another and stay united in faith. It is a good time to offer a special intention for the Holy Father whenever we pray. May God grant him good health and continue to guide him in his service.
Change often starts from the ground up, and there are hundreds of state and local candidates this year who will stand up for their communities and fight for progress. These races will help shape our future, and it’s never been more important to get involved: https://t.co/N1Zq6D8iTk
I cannot stop thinking about three families who sent their children to elementary school this morning and will never bring them home again.
So spare me the fucking thoughts and prayers.
Spare me the speeches about how now isn't the time to talk about guns.
And spare me the politicians who have spent YEARS refusing meaningful gun-safety laws while telling the rest of us that massacred children are somehow the unavoidable price America must pay for their interpretation of the Second Amendment.
FUCK THAT.
Children being slaughtered in their elementary school is not the price of freedom.
It is a fucking national disgrace.
And don't even start with “if the teachers were armed.”
They're TEACHERS.
They went to work today to teach children how to read and multiply and make friends. They are not fucking marksmen. Turning an elementary school into a crossfire because politicians refuse to confront America's gun problem isn't a solution. It's insanity.
Three children are dead.
Three families have been destroyed.
Hundreds of other little kids just experienced something no child should ever see.
So to every politician who blocks meaningful gun-safety laws and then races to a microphone after another classroom fills with blood:
Keep your fucking thoughts and prayers.
Do your fucking job.

The latest from the doctors treating Pope Leo XIV:
“This morning, the Holy Father underwent routine check-ups, which yielded normal results. A chest X-ray showed good recovery of the operated lung. He has been carrying out his daily activities independently. His physiotherapy session included a full range of physical movements.
Overall, the post-operative recovery is progressing as expected.”
Sixty-two years ago, on October 14, 1964, Daddy learned that he had been selected to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He was just 35 years old.
The honor recognized his leadership in the nonviolent struggle for civil rights. He accepted it on behalf of a movement whose courage and sacrifice had shown the world the power of nonviolence.
Daddy’s philosophy calls us to confront injustice, transform unjust systems and affirm the dignity of every human being. It requires courage, discipline and love in action.
Sixty-two years later, that work remains urgent. The responsibility to advance it remains ours.
We honor my father’s legacy by practicing nonviolence in our daily lives and continuing the work to create the Beloved Community.

The whole Trump administration is out here promising everything after the midterms that they promised after the election, and you all keep falling for the same bullshit. How fucking stupid can you be?
Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.
