[David Brand @DavidFBrand]

Today, Corona native Stanley “Jamel” Bellamy had his 62.5-yr prison sentence commuted by @GovKathyHochul

“While incarcerated, Mr. Bellamy has earned recognition as a leader and mentor,” Hochul’s office said

I wrote about him back in 2018 @QueensEagle https://t.co/azg3EKkDgX

WATCH: Former Parole Board Commissioner Carol Shapiro speaks with @sarbetter about the urgent need for NY lawmakers to pass Elder Parole and Fair & Timely Parole.

“We’re at a boiling point. People are dying in state prisons, more even than at Rikers.” https://t.co/HoTgt3wVRg

Man appearing in “virtual court” from Rikers AMKC today. He’s in a decrepit room with multiple other people - no privacy whatsoever. “It’s not safe in here…Just because I’m incarcerated doesn’t mean I don’t have human rights.” Judge mutes his microphone and adjourns the case.

Year 6...

[Alliance of Families for Justice @afjny]

Many impacted families can feel discouraged about what steps to take to help their loved ones and themselves.

We know that once they have adequate support, resources, and information, they become a powerhouse and advocate for many of the social justice reforms happening today!

Wanted to share with y'all a news story that has always stayed with me and that I discuss with my students every semester.

In 2008, a 26 year-old mom named Tarika Wilson was at home with her kids and holding her baby in her arms.

[Alliance of Families for Justice @afjny]

We wouldn't be able to impact our community without the generosity and support of others. There's so much ahead of us in 2022, but we need the financial support to help us achieve those goals and initiatives!

Dear @GovKathyHochul: clemency power is one of the great constitutional and moral powers of being governor. It represents courage, and as you know, there is no justice without grace. Please use your powers to grant clemencies this week. #ClemencyNow

[Release Aging People in Prison Campaign @RAPPcampaign]

Our Long Island RAPP Leader Ulysses was one of the few people former Gov. Cuomo granted clemency to. Now he’s a community leader, calling on @GovKathyHochul to grant #ClemencyNow and bring home those he left behind. #HochulBringThemHome

RAPP Long Island Community Leader Caroline is joining the movement for #ClemencyNow in support of her husband, who is serving a life without parole sentence in NY State. @GovKathyHochul once said life without parole is “inherently inhumane.” We agree. #HochulBringThemHome
