It appears that @Royal_Greenwich operates with a double standardโone rule for some and another for others. It's striking how John Roan Club and Old Colfeians seem to operate freely, while the black-owned football club has faced continuous suppression.
For the past three years, some neighbours on Meadowcourt Road, Ravens way and Eltham Road have made our journey extremely difficult by filing false noise complaints, claiming children football matches are too loud and despite having permission for portable floodlights, weโve been told we canโt use them.
Numerous times, neighbours have stormed onto the premises, shouting and threatening to shut us down, telling us we wonโt get any license we apply for, and referring to us in derogatory terms like โyou/your people.โ Some of our local members have reported that group chats have devolved into racial attacks, forcing them to leave. An email from the local councillor hoping a developer would come along and โget rid of those people.โ
Whatโs deeply concerning is that, as a local football club, we are unable to host outdoor events that help keep our doors open. Yet, Kiss FM can hire out Blackheath Village fields and make as much noise as they please. We can hear their music all the way from Blackheath, but somehow, thatโs acceptable. The inconsistency in treatment is staggering.
This is just a fraction of what weโve endured. So, my question to Greenwich Council is: when will you stand by us, or are you part of the suppression we continue to face?
