Our entrance strategy at the Charles Mid-Block Crossing looks to build a stronger connection between the Public Garden and the Common. New granite piers, trees, and paving will help create a better sense of arrival into the Common.

After listening to constituents, the Master Plan team proposed to convert the off-leash dog areas into an enclosed dog recreation area, increasing safety, reducing maintenance efforts, and limiting conflicts with event areas.

For Boston Common's athletics area, the Master Plan proposes a multi-use field, adds a restroom and storage facility, and provides more seating. Relocating the tennis courts will make room for new basketball courts!

Public engagement for the Boston Common Master Plan kicked off in June 2019. Pop-up events and a series of open houses gave stakeholders time and space to share their thoughts on the Common, virtually and in-person.
