As Benjamin Guinness restocked his library (1967-92), he sought to "repatriate" texts of Irish relevance, many having been auctioned abroad after Independence.
This account complements my research into @opwfarmleigh library's accessions catalogue.*

Then there’s this wonderfully phrased #passiveagressive request for the @tcdlibrary Librarian to reply to a proposal made 3 weeks earlier. (Maybe the crash of London stock exchange September 20 then NY October 24 that year were impacting him?)

So many of the letters, especially from Britain or Ireland, start with an apology for taking up the Librarian’s time… #research #books

The passive-aggressive tone of this letter is striking. What they might not have been aware of is the legal-deposit status of @tcdlibrary granted by Queen Victoria did not stop after Ireland *cough* “left the family”. #research #books
