Au nom de la population du Nouveau-Brunswick, Marcia et moi exprimons nos plus sincères condoléances à la famille et aux amis de l’honorable Noël Augustus Kinsella. M. Kinsella est né à Saint John en 1939. Il a connu une brillante carrière en éducation et en politique et a été une figure marquante du Nouveau-Brunswick.
Il a étudié dans différentes universités européennes et était membre du Collège des psychologues du Nouveau-Brunswick. Il a fait partie du corps professoral de l’Université St Thomas à Fredericton pendant 41 ans et en était membre du conseil des gouverneurs. Il a été fait chevalier de nombreux ordres et capitaine honoraire (Marine) des Forces canadiennes. M. Kinsella a également reçu plusieurs doctorats honorifiques.
D’abord nommé au Sénat par le premier ministre Brian Mulroney en 1990, M. Kinsella y a occupé différentes fonctions jusqu’à sa nomination comme 42e président du Sénat par le premier ministre Stephen Harper le 8 février 2006. Il a servi consciencieusement jusqu’à sa démission, le 26 novembre 2014, avant d’atteindre la retraite obligatoire.
Dévoué aux droits de la personne, il a présidé la Commission des droits de la personne du Nouveau-Brunswick pendant 22 ans et a joué un rôle de premier plan dans la défense des droits de la personne à l’échelle internationale.
Éloquent, sérieux et pince-sans-rire, M. Kinsella incarnait la gentillesse et était toujours désireux d’aider les jeunes de la relève. Le Nouveau-Brunswick, le Canada et le monde entier lui doivent beaucoup. Son décès touchera les innombrables personnes dont il a influencé la vie. Je suis reconnaissant de l’avoir côtoyé durant toutes ces années.
En cette période difficile, Marcia et moi souhaitons témoigner notre sympathie à son épouse, Ann Conley Kinsella et à ses proches.
