The campaign to make care experience a protected characteristic is gaining momentum every single day. Every single child in our care system deserves the chance to live a good life. #changeiscoming
@caroldavismoody I definitely agree that there needs to be change. I'd like to see recognised training and career pathway options for foster carers, too. The care they are being asked to provide goes beyond parenting and often has the most significant impact on children's lives.
@caroldavismoody And I'm wondering if the allegations is deemed proved (on balance) by the LADO / agency and the professional body reaches a different conclusion, would FC's still find themselves in an untenable position?
@caroldavismoody I have some sympathy for the approach, although do you think that having a professional body would prevent many of the issues described in your article? LAs aren't going to wait for a professional body's investigation to take safeguarding action.
@StephenMcLbrtrn@MartinSLewis I wonder how that would work? Some Council functions don't easily lend themselves to a pay as you go would you propose some sort of subscription service?
One consequence of the failure to appreciate childrenโs homes and to invest proportionately is that the burden of care has been shifted to foster families, often with catastrophic impact on young people.
@UB1UB2 Unnecessary and cruel, I can't imagine why anyone would have thought this to be an acceptable way to deal with an escaped, probably scared and confused animal @PoliceConduct
@ccwild79 Like you I'd urge every elector to take a long hard look at the candidates and cast their ballot for one who values the most vulnerable in society, we also need to remember democracy isn't a single event and campaigning isn't limited to elections.
My hometown Blackpool has today been identified as having the highest number of children in care in the country. @_HENorth found that 1 in 52 children there rely on the state for their protection.ย
That is no coincidence. For decades, the government has failed to ๐งต
This could be a game changer! A bill for universal screening of children for both dyslexia and neurodiversity at primary school and also ensuring teachers get the training they need to support them. I hope this will get through Parliament this session.
Iโve been blown away by the support for my Bill in Parliament over the past 2-years, where I've been campaigning for the universal screening of dyslexia in primary schools. ๐งต
Today's announcement on immigration should set alarm bells ringing for the social care sector. We know there are 152,000 vacancies and people are struggling to access the care and support they need: ๐งต
Another year, another real terms pay cut for Social Workers this time roughly 6%, cumitavely more than a 25% cut over the last 10 years.

My foster lad got 3s and a single 5. After all he has been through, seeing all the effort he put in. I could not be prouder. The system is wrong, it fails far, far too many. He is no failure and he will bloom at college...no thanks to compulsory education.
