@Buster_ESPN Don’t doubt that someone said that but they’ve lost Betts, Bogaerts, Devers, JD Martinez, Schwarber, Bregman not to mention players who have had good single seasons like Tyler ONeil, Justin Turner, or Hunter Renfroe in just half a decade. The pure talent has dwindled every season
@tylermilliken_@TheAthletic For someone who played the game, he sure is clueless or just disingenuous. If you can blame Fatse for Campbell, then you must give him credit for Abreu. That’s just not how this game works.
@redsoxstats One area of concern is if this team wants to add at the deadline, I’m not sure where the obvious power bat upgrade could come from. The 2B and 3B markets aren’t great, as we learned this offseason.
@tylermilliken_@timbhealey I don’t think they were lying when they said they view the Devers contract as underwater (I disagree). Their model is unrealistic for running a MLB team in this market. Either sell or adapt. No chance they pay yrs 30-35 when they already gave up on Devers’ yrs 25-30. We’re cooked
@redsoxstats Impossible to replace his production without an expensive contract for an older player other than hitting the draft lottery to find the next 30/100 guy in his early 20s. Their shutdown pitching silenced the Devers conversation until the playoffs when it was clear they can’t hit.
@ColeyMick The Devers trade truthers will be vindicated if they aren’t already. If he was that awful in the clubhouse which we would have heard by now, you still have to get a return for a bat of his caliber. It was never either/or Devers and Anthony. Should be both.
@ChrisCotillo The Devers trade is officially inexcusable even if he was an issue on or off the field. They cleared that money and lost an irreplaceable bat then promised to make good. They could have traded him right now for a haul instead of scraps.
@LouMerloni Anyone who is truly mad about trading Blaze Jordan would have been even angrier losing him in the rule 5 draft for nothing. Campbell is blocking him.
@BOSSportsGordo It’s not said enough. Every time they lose a close game it should be said that Henry ordered another elite bat to be dumped to the lowest bidder. Their top prospects are asked to lead, hit clean up, switch positions, and do interviews. So much for them for protecting them.
@Buster_ESPN I understand their frustration with Devers but the return was god awful and they lost their best hitter who’s under contract for his prime. They made their team worse to send a message. Dumb move.
@RafaelaEnjoyer He needs a position. He’s supposed to be an everyday player and can’t sit on the bench so I agree with a short stint in AAA. Young pitchers frequently get sent down to work on something or to transition to starter/reliever. It’s not a big deal. His defense is the problem imo.
