Attempted Murder Investigation in Kakaʻako Area: Two Arrested and One Suspect Wanted
Detectives from the Criminal Investigativion Division’s Strategic Enforcement Detail continued the investigation into the shooting that occurred on May 17, 2026, in the Kakaʻako area near Ilaniwai Street and Ward Avenue.
Through the investigation, detectives determined that a large fight broke out after patrons and employees exited The Gatsby bar. During the altercation, three individuals discharged firearms into a crowd of people, striking a 23-year-old male victim.
Investigators identified the shooters as 18-year-old Ezekiel RAMOS HOOPAI, 32-year-old Trey SAMOA, and 23-year-old Markelle MCFARLIN.
Today, May 20, 2026, officers with the District 1 Crime Reduction Unit arrested Ezekiel RAMOS HOOPAI and Markelle MCFARLIN for Attempted Murder in the First Degree and firearm offenses.
Charges will be sought with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney.
Trey SAMOA has not been arrested at this time and is wanted.
