@OutwestLock So many ppl watching boxing don’t grasp the distinction btw ‘skills’ vs ‘tactics’. Boots’ defensive ‘skills’ (ie elusiveness, anticipation, distance) are elite, Xander was whiffing a LOT. He gets hit bc his aggressive, KO-first ‘tactics’ put him in vulnerable positions.
@theologyuvages@AlBernstein@JaronEnnis Inoue & Boots are the same exact fighter in every way except Boots being switch. Ppl always said the same shit ab “bad defense” when inoue ran thru champs at 118. In reality both have elite defensive skills, they get hit bc theyre ALWAYS thinking KO & take big risks to get there
@TheBHentel Angelo Dundee never boxed himself but is one of the greatest trainers ever. A lot of pro boxers actually don’t watch the sport like you think they would, so they aren’t good analysts. That said certain things only experience could teach so if you never fought u gotta be humble.
@DOUBLERR78@TheBHentel Boots and Inoue are actually very much the same style fighter besides boots being switch. Ppl used to say inoue got hit a lot bc like boots he was super aggressive and confident going for the KO. He has since evolved into a defensively responsible fighter, but it took the canvas.
@TheBHentel Boots and Inoue are THE SAME EXACT fighter, only difference is Boots is switch. Both have elite defensive skills but their combo of insane self belief and killer instinct puts them in vulnerable spots. Boots is gonna have scary moments just like Inoue.
@grittywuzhere I think thats his DNA tho. Boots has the same insane self-belief in the ring that inoue had. First time Inoue met an elite puncher (Donaire) he broke his orbital in rd 2. It’s gonna take a couple scares, prob touching the canvas, to incite the change in mentality.
@Hubo2012@AlecTalksBoxing Exactly. He’s got the same mentality of insane self belief + killer instinct that inoue has, and ppl always said the same exact shit ab Inoue’s defense. It took getting dropped 2x for him to evolve into a more defensively responsible fighter. I see Boots going the same way.
@AlecTalksBoxing The thing is it’s not a defensive skill issue with Boots that causes him to take shots. It’s his temperament, his DNA as a fighter. Hes high risk, high reward and his in-ring self belief is bordering on delusion.
Exactly like Inoue, who it took getting dropped twice to change:
@bluefear207@ZachSchumaker Idk which shot it was but he was definitely hurt this round at some point. You can see it in his legs and body language. He showed great composure and recovery though.
@OutwestLock Boots & inoue are comparable fighters. Besides Boots being switch, the skillset and temperament in the ring are very alike. Just like inoue, it’s not really ‘bad defense’, it’s the insane self-belief that borders on arrogance. At some point Boots is gonna hit the canvas.
@TonieToneNY@OutwestLock No one can hold up vs Boots firepower. Hes more gifted than everyone else. The concern is that he gets caught + KOd right there. It only takes 1.
Boots is close to inoue. Same skillset, mentality in ring, same vulnerabilities. At some point hes gonna get caught like inoue did.
@KerrickDuchy 1. You def don’t watch much boxing. 2. In MMA, there’s so many skills involved that guys start their pro careers while still a relative novice in some aspect of their game. A blue chip prospect could lose to a far inferior opponent who’s better in 1 area (Islam for example).
@Sean_Zittel Honestly I learned more about Zayas this fight than Boots. He is a great fighter and I believe if they meet again a couple years down the line it’s a much closer fight. He’s concussed rd 1 but showed the heart, IQ, and savvy of a great fighter.
@shocknawe78@xwanyex That figure gets repeated constantly but it’s not accurate. The study it comes from asked whether medical bills *contributed* to their bankruptcy debt, not *caused*. 90% of American adults have $0 medical debt, and owing exorbitant amounts over $10K is extremely rare.
@NajiChill@RopeADopeRadio Who has he ducked in his career? I get the frustration with the last year or so and he should’ve given up the belts after Dubois fight, but I can’t consider it a duck when hes retiring. Usyk even gave a young lion Dubois 2 chances to take the crown. There’s always a next man up.
@Sean_Zittel Imo Boots & Inoue are VERY similar. Both explosive athletes whos physical gifts, self belief, & mean streak compel them to take big risk. They seek out 50/50 positions bc they have every advantage in speed, power etc. Eventually we see boots get dropped just like we did w/ inoue.
