I read recently where Thomas Merton is telling a story about someone of high esteem and societal “worth” writing to him and said, “You are wasting your life!”
Merton’s reply: “I am here because God has called me to be here.”

Today’s ORI focus: Reversing the Mental Health Crisis
Society has made strides in destigmatizing mental health, but the journey is far from over. More people are speaking openly about their struggles, seeking therapy, and accepting support. Yet, we're facing a crisis, especially among youth, caught between achievement pressures and comparison culture. Constant news exacerbates fears, fueling unprecedented levels of anxiety and depression.
We're interested in organizations taking both a personal and systems-level view of these challenges. This will require both “relief and development”: not only more creative, effective, and accessible forms of traditional mental health support, but different kinds of schools, media companies, and technology firms that can address the root causes of these alarming trends.
