You can also see traces of the original lime plaster on the underside of the stairs... We often think of castles as having bare stone walls, but in fact Gaelic castles of this period were lime rendered and
plastered, helping enormously with light and weatherproofing

Without electric light, you can see how clever the 500 year old design in the castle is - bouncing the light from tiny windows around the spiral stairs 🏰
