@SakiTay@AshleySchapitl Cost of living in DC has not tripled over the last 10 years. And even if it had, wouldn’t that be an argument for letting people keep more disposable income rather than an argument for even more tax increases?
@AGoldmund It’s been a long time, but I hire regularly. I’m sure that AI has become a common feature of application processes, but it doesn’t say anything about the *market* - the supply and demand equilibrium for jobs. 10 years ago employers just used other ways to weed. 🤷♂️
@nick_kapur LOL the pan in question didn't get worse - it just wasn't dishwasher safe. And it isn't owned by private equity. People are truly illiterate.
@scoknuts@mattyglesias In 2006 there were 50+ pro life Democrats in Congress. Now there is 1. So obviously the party HAS moved left on that issue. Ezra’s argument is that a bigger tent would allow Dems to win more seats in districts where abortion is unpopular.

@AGoldmund Because for those who view politics as an important mechanism of policy formation, as opposed to an expressive hobby, it’s useful to understand people who are very effective political activists even if you disagree with them?
@Filmantopia@Dr_Benton_Quest@AGoldmund He bucked the DSA hard on policing - increasing NYPD headcount, kicked the can on free buses, he’s limiting vs expanding rental vouchers, etc.
@marthagimbel@schadenfraade But you want to have some non-vibes based metric for policy success. For instance, if it turns out that your baby bonus just subsidizes demand for child care in a supply constrained market and thus just gets eaten by higher prices, than you haven't improved anyones life.
@zachweinberg Those of us who were paying attention to politics longer than the last 24 months recall that we had a diplomatic framework in place that was effectively addressing this problem, and that every time we’ve attempted the regime change fantasy you describe it goes very badly.
