We have to learn to think in categories. God has established 3 instititions with 3 different roles:

Family
Church
State

We then ask, “what is the role of an individual disciple and what is the role of the church in this situation?”

Great Commission. Easy. Love your neighbor. Duh.

Then we ask, “what is the role of the State and the role of the leader of the State in this situation?”

Bear the sword (Romans 13, protect the country). Easy. Punish the wrongdoer (enforce laws). Easy. Leaders have a responsibility to people under their care they don’t have to people not under their care. Therefore, the leader of a nation prioritizes what’s best for their nation. Easy. So, Christians should be ok w that.

Think in categories. Walk and chew gum. What you’re doing is conflating categories and imputing the role of the church and individual to the State.

It would be like saying to a father “the Bible says to love orphans, so you have to adopt 300 orphans into your family and harm your own children to do it, or else you’re disobeying the command.”

I can simultaneously allocate over $8M of my church’s budget to foreign missions, much to Islamic nations, rabidly share Christ and meet needs of Islamic families in DFW (my church does all of that), and oppose immigration policies that will longterm harm our country with 0 contradiction.

Gotta think in categories.

As our nation marks 250 years of history, the July 4 Sunrise Service is more than a celebration—it is a call to prayer.
