People ask me all the time my favorite place in America.
It’s Sand Hills.
It is a world class golf course with eighteen unforgettable holes. You remember every one of them. There is no filler. The land is pure and the golf is the point.
The people are kind, humble, and hospitable. There is zero air of pretentiousness and a strong air of tradition, which is very different. It is a gentleman first type place.
The membership is small and from what I have heard the dues are incredibly reasonable if you are in. No velvet rope energy. Just respect for the game and for one another.
The food is unreal. Red meat from down the road. Simple and done right.
Play is fast but casual. Loop as many holes as you want. The clubhouse and lodging are understated and minimal. It is not about amenities. It is about the golf.
Dick Youngscap had the foresight to build the clubhouse away from the best piece of land. The golf gets the best land. Ben’s Porch is a simple deck where you can have a drink. There is nothing for miles and miles. Total peace, quiet, and serenity.
If I could choose any membership in the world, it would be Sand Hills.
Located near Holyoke, Colorado, Ballyneal Golf Club is a private, walking-only course designed by Tom Doak. Built among natural sand dunes, it embraces minimalist, links-style architecture with firm fescue fairways and wind-driven strategy. Opened in 2006, it’s regarded as one of America’s finest modern courses.
There isn’t an ocean for 1000 miles, but Ballyneal is as linksy as they come. Firm and fast conditions, wonderfully natural bunkering, and (usually) plenty of wind. Contours play a key role on every shot and it’s a perfect match play course. Bonus points for blissful seclusion.
Before and after cart path removal. 😍
I’m not anti golf carts, there is a place for them.
But cart paths in field of play and vision are an abomination that should be eradicated from existence. Destroy them all.
@mabintou Nobody is trying to pay $190+ retail for some Jordans man… shoes aren’t even made for a third of that. Boring colorways. Boring models. Bring back og stuff and drop prices
If there is a better way to spend $70 on golf, I haven't seen it*. The routing is fantastic, great variety on the holes, and the greens... Those greens...
Get. To. Gothenburg.
