நான் இங்க பல முறை சொன்னது தான், அடிப்படை ஆங்கில இலக்கணம் கொஞ்ச தெரிஞ்சிகிட்டா, அதுக்கப்பறம் விடாம நிறைய ஆங்கில மீடியா பார்க்கணும், கேட்கணும். அத வச்சி கூட தெரிஞ்சிக்கலாம்.
அதுவும் இப்பலாம் எல்லாத்துக்கும் subtitle வருது. ஆனா நல்லா படிச்சா ஆளுங்களே வெறும் டப்பிங் பார்க்கிறது கொடுமை.

English is like that. You cannot learn that from reading The Hindu or watching the English new in India.

You have to watch and listen to native English speakers to train your ear and adapt to their accents.

What I’m about to say might come across as bragging, but I truly don’t mean it that way. I just want to point out what regular exposure to native English does to your brain.

I’ve never travelled outside South India. I’ve never been to any native English speaking country and I’m a college dropout. But I can understand most English accents quite well.

Due to repeated exposure to native English content, my accent has lost MTI (mother-tongue-influence) and now without ever needing to fake an accent, its very neutral with (obvious) Indian influence. If I try to to speak with an Indian accent, it'll sound like I'm mocking Indians. (No, I don't have the 90s Kamal's fake English accent.)

Repeated exposure to native English content, made me lost my accent's MTI (mother-tongue influence). Now, without ever trying to fake an accent, it sounds fairly neutral, with an obvious Indian influence. If I try to speak with a strong Indian accent, it sounds like I’m mocking Indians. (And no, I don’t have that fake 90s Kamal English accent.)

My English is not perfect, but I can kinda fool you into thinking it is because of the way I speak it.

If you want to, learn other languages, but don't skip English. Because despite what some internet leftists claim, Chinese or Japanese is not going to dominate the world the way English does.

(Btw, if you go abroad, try to spend time with people from that country. Don’t go looking only for Indians and end up living a secluded life. அங்க போய்ட்டும் பார்ப்பனீய கும்பல் மாதிரி சரவண பவன் ஹோட்டல் branch தேடி போய் மூணு வேலையும் சாப்பிடுறது நிறுத்துங்க.)

@veeraakurilil If you have adobe premium, then it might help a little. Make sure you have some Unicode Tamil fonts installed other than the nirmala font given by Microsoft. Enable it across the apps and try again. Online converters won’t work because the text is Unicode.

It's interesting how impatient we usually are. Just a few minutes of delay in getting our food delivered or at a delay at a restaurant can drive us restless.

Yet, there are certain places where we simply stop worrying about time—hospitals, airports, trains, or long flights.

In hospital waiting rooms, clocks seem meaningless. Minutes quietly stretch into hours, but we don't impatiently check our watches. The worry isn't about time passing, but about what's waiting for us. Like Schrödinger’s cat, the news we're waiting for is both hopeful and scary at the same time, until we finally know.

At airports, strict schedules matter only until we cross security. After that, we slip into a different rhythm. People slow down, accepting the wait as part of the journey itself. They stand quietly by large windows, watching airplanes move gently across the tarmac—calm in a way they're not in daily life.

On long flights and train rides, it's the same. We drift into a suspended reality where time isn't really slow or fast; it just doesn't exist. Conversations flow more easily, books become more enjoyable, and thoughts wander without effort.

It's funny how these places, designed around schedules—like hospitals with appointment timings, airports with departure screens, and trains with their fixed timetables—actually help us let go of our usual impatience.

In these special moments, we quietly discover that sometimes forgetting about time feels comforting. It's a break we didn't know we needed in our always-busy lives.
