@NatesHiddenGems it makes perfect sense to me that they tried so hard to adapt a "grunge" sound later on when that went mainstream becuz even in the early stuff, especially like "rainbows " on lost songs you can hear like Alice in Chains. Dokken sometimes sounded proto-grunge.
ALEX COX'S PUNK PROVOCATIONS ❤️🔥 📺 Now playing on the Criterion Channel! https://t.co/l6YXOXzwrK
A patron saint of punk cinema and borderless storytelling, Cox remains one of the greatest subversives to ever pick up a camera, a rebel auteur who blends gonzo surrealism, anarchic irreverence, and blistering anticapitalist and anti-imperialist critique.
@NauPavarro Allison Anders, Hal Hartley, Todd Solandz to name a few. Even David Lynch struggled to finance his films. Jim Jarmusch manages to still make decent quirky films but I don't find them as amazing as his earlier work. Linklater releases something every few years.
@NauPavarro Unfortunately he's not the only one in this predicament. So many great "indie" minded directors from the 80s, 90s who inspired me to actual pursue filmmaking can't even get a film made anymore. The industry just ended up shitting on them.
@NauPavarro That's cool you supported the project but that's exactly my point - one of the best and boldest directors ever to do it should NOT have to resort to kickstarter to fund his visionary movies. He should be getting $20 million or more from A24 or whoever has the real cash.
@Janastas@davidclowery@shooterjennings 1 billion in vinyl sales this year, most since the 80s -i'd say the carbon footprint isn't going anywhere soon. Even Sturgill Simpson kept his new album off streaming services. in favor of physical formats. You'll see that happening more and more.
@Janastas@davidclowery@shooterjennings nobody is saying it was perfect but this tech bro attitude that it's so much better /artist friendly now
demands harsh critique.
the only artists getting anywhere near a billion reach are top tier acts or garbage AI music made to rig the system against
real musicians even more
