Coupled with the attack on BLS, this is rapidly advancing deeper into the territory of insisting that all data that doesn't conform to Trump preferences is inherently invalid & that only the leader can tell you the truth. A hallmark of authoritarians across world & thru history
The news out of the DC mayor’s press conference is that her lawyers apparently do not believe they have grounds to challenge President Trump’s declaration of a DC crime emergency. The city appears to be surrendering to a federal takeover of its police department.
The President taking over local control of MPD & putting the US military onto the streets of DC under the guise of public safety is wrong. It’s an extreme, outrageous, and dangerous move for our city and the safety of all our residents. (1/5)
If the federal government can disappear a legal US permanent resident without reason or warrant, then they can disappear US citizens too.
Anyone - left, right, or center - who has highlighted the importance of constitutional rights + free speech should be sounding the alarm now.
I am not weighing in on whether Biden/Harris should or shouldn’t do any of these things, but there are serious questions about whether voters will believe you in the long term if you say, on one hand, that Donald Trump is a fascist, a threat to democracy, that he admires Hitler, etc., and on the other hand, you call him to congratulate him and then warmly welcome him to the White House and his running mate to the Vice President’s residence.
Am I suggesting that Biden/Harris stop the transfer of power?
Absolutely not.
But being warm and cordial with the incoming president isn’t required by law.
Would you be warm and cordial with a fascist, a threat to democracy, and someone who admired Hitler?
Watching Gen Z men veer right hits different for Millennials. We lived through Columbine, 9/11, the Iraq War, 2008 crash, 2016 election, covid, abortion bans, & now this. We watched institutions repeatedly fail us while older generations selfishly protected the status quo. 🧵1/
Donald Trump — the twice impeached former president, Jan. 6 coup leader, convicted felon, adjudicated sexual abuser, and man who mismanaged the 2020 economic implosion and coronavirus disaster that killed more than 1 million people in this country — has convinced American voters to give him another term in the White House.

I’m not a puppet Elon.. I’m a daughter of two immigrant parents that had to work their ass off to provide for me! I’m a product of welfare, I’m a product of section 8, I’m a product of poverty and I’m a product of what happens when the system is set up against you….But you don’t know nothing about that. You don’t know not one thing about the American struggle…. PS fix my algorithm
El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico's largest newspaper — with 7 million monthly readers throughout the mainland and Puerto Rico — has endorsed Vice President Harris.
"Trump suffers from psychopathic elements ... He has no moral compass ... These are traits typical of those people who qualify as malignant narcissists. Trump is one of the worst."
An aide to Hillary Clinton shares this photo of the former secretary of state from earlier today, taken during a run-through of speech she'll deliver tonight at the Democratic National Convention
I wrote something for @politico about how Tim Walz is one of the few politicians who looks normal in casualwear. And this is partly why Harris choose him for her campaign. 🧵

Not all disappointing outcomes are failures. Some lead to improvements in your process.
Success is about more than the results you achieve. It's also about the growth you attain.
Progress is more than how close you come to your goal. It's how far you've come from your start.
One of the many extremely appealing things about Walz is that he doesn’t appear to have had a grand plan to take over the universe. He appears to have gone into politics because he likes helping people, and risen because he’s really good at that. What a concept!
