The Obsession art director post. Man, what a choice.
One year total experience. Only credit pre-Obsession is a single short film. Sign on to a low budget indie. Agree to rate. Movie explodes. You're suddenly the Art Director fo the most talked about film of the year.
If this ever happens to you, let me give one piece of advice. Embrace it. Use the credit to fight off offers, get a BTL agent, turn those difficult three weeks into an incredible career.
Do NOT cut every connection you have to the filmmakers, put out tweets about how you wish you'd shut down their production, and complain about the rate you agreed to (which isn't even like $100 or some student film sketchiness).
Do you know how many indies I have done as an actor for $240/day? A fucking lot. Every single time I know what I'm getting into and I hope to god it turns out well and leads to another opportunity. I cannot even imagine getting cast in Obsession and then putting out a career ruining post about it instead of trying to leverage it into more work.
@PhoenixBlackNow I guess I don’t see $300 a day as a favor? This could have been used as an opportunity to get a bigger paycheck on the next film but now I wonder how many productions won’t want to hire this person now.
And if this movie only made $2 million, no one would’ve said anything.
@QTarantino_ Not siding with those who made millions. I think this person complaining publicly burned bridges.
Instead, they could’ve used that movie being well received as a launchpad to bigger budget movie with better pay. This is entertainment BUSINESS. We artists need to remember that
A 30 day shoot so they paid her 9k. They had 45 people on the crew. Assuming they pay everyone that amount, that’s $400,000. More than half the budget. That’s not considering actors, locations, effects, or post.
These people have no idea how money or reality works! 🤦🏻♂️
Saw OBSESSION last night and my number #1 thought while watching was, “Man, the production design is really strong, I hope that modestly compensated, new crew member gets hired on an even bigger-and-better movie and isn’t blowing their moment by being weird on social media.”
what should happen:
- studios promote young new directors
- smaller budgets
- less CGI, AI
- real movies produced with care, made by real people
what will happen:
- inde navarette funko pop
- OBSESSION cinematic universe
@andreaberting I agree with this. The respect part is key.
I was not out and open about being queer for many years and it was frustrating how as an example, some queer produced comedy shows only wanted queer comics and wanted to know “my deal.” Like… book for talent, not personal stuff
