NEW: Pope Leo XIV’s new archbishop of New York, Ronald Hicks, celebrates the Knicks’ title with Mayor Zohran Mamdani at the city’s Puerto Rican festival.
Deep inner suffering inevitably arises when the human person is reduced to performance, consumption, or a statistical datum. Many young people today live under the yoke of expectations to perform, immersed in an exasperated competitiveness that generates anxiety, fear of not measuring up, and disorientation.
Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge good and evil, grasp the ultimate meaning of situations, or bear responsibility for consequences. They may imitate or even simulate, but they do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational, and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom. #MagnificaHumanitas
#AI can be a valuable tool and, at the same time, it calls for a measured and vigilant approach. The speed and simplicity with which practical assistance can be accessed undoubtedly makes life easier. Yet they can also encourage excessive reliance and the search for ready-made answers, and weaken personal creativity and judgment. #MagnificaHumanitas
In the era of #ArtificialIntelligence, when human dignity is threatened by new forms of dehumanization, ours is the pressing duty to remain profoundly human. We must lovingly safeguard the grandeur of humanity bestowed upon us and revealed in its fullness in Christ, the splendor of which no machine can ever replace. #MagnificaHumanitas

Humanity, created by God in all its grandeur, is today facing a pivotal choice: either to construct a new Tower of Babel or to build the city in which God and humanity dwell together. In Jesus Christ, this humanity in its grandeur becomes the Way, the Truth and the Life, opening the path for each of us to grow toward fullness. #MagnificaHumanitas

As evidenced by the unbridled promotion and implementation of technology at the expense of human dignity, we are truly experiencing an eclipse of the sense of what it means to be human. It is imperative to recover an understanding of the true meaning and grandeur of humanity as intended by God. It is in this sense that the challenge we currently face is not technological, but anthropological, and it is my hope that the Encyclical Letter to be published within a few days will contribute to answering this challenge.
“There is always the lurking danger of living in a laboratory. Ours is not a ‘lab faith,’ but a ‘journey faith,’ a historical faith.
“God has revealed himself as history, not as a compendium of abstract truths. I am afraid of laboratories because in the laboratory, you take the problems and then you bring them home to tame them, to paint them artificially, out of their context.
“You cannot bring home the frontier, but you have to live on the border and be audacious.” — Pope Francis
What kind of world are we leaving behind? Unfortunately, it is a world distorted by war and war-like language. This pollution of reason comes from the geopolitical sphere and invades every social relationship. Any simplification that creates enemies must be corrected, especially in universities, through complexity of thought and wise exercise of memory.
You are part of a story of love—that of the Lord for His people—which began before you and does not end with you. You are part of it as unique and necessary pieces. You are part of it so that you may kindle a light, even amid the dense patterns of darkness. #PastoralVisit#Naples https://t.co/1ho0ge1iyH
On the day I was entrusted with the ministry of the Successor of Peter, exactly one year ago, the Church celebrated the Supplication to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of #Pompeii. I therefore had to come here, to place my service under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary. #PastoralVisit https://t.co/uui9x3qPhh
Today we celebrate World Press Freedom Day, sponsored by UNESCO. Unfortunately, this right is often violated, sometimes flagrantly, sometimes in hidden ways. Let us remember the many journalists and reporters who are victims of war and violence.

Christ calls us to freedom. He does not want servants or clients, rather He seeks brothers and sisters to whom He can totally dedicate Himself. To respond with faith to this love, it is not enough to hear Jesus speak: we must accept the meaning of His words. It is not enough even to just observe what Jesus does: we must follow and imitate Him. #ApostolicJourney #Angola https://t.co/WQ4wr7yrLn
🛑 Pope on plane to Angola: “A certain narrative has taken hold—one that is not entirely accurate—due to the political situation that arose when, on the first day of the trip, the President of the United States made certain statements regarding me…. Much of what has been written since then is nothing more than commentary upon commentary, in an attempt to interpret what was said. An example is the important address delivered at the Prayer Meeting for Peace on April 16. That speech had been prepared two weeks earlier—well before the President commented on me and on the message of peace I am promoting. And yet, it was interpreted as if I were attempting to engage in a renewed debate with the President—something that is not in my interest at all.”
