Otto Hesselbom (1848 - 1913): Christmas Eve at the Grave, 1896.

This painting by Otto Hesselbom brings us to a Scandinavian winter in the 1890s. The artist has perfectly captured the moment immediately following the "blue hour"—just after sunset, as night begins to fall.

Let us focus on the figure and his surroundings. The man’s posture conveys a grief that is difficult to bear. At the head of the grave, we see a small, illuminated pine tree.

At the time this painting was created, cemeteries in Scandinavia were usually left unlit and merely covered with pine branches—quite unlike today. The custom of lighting candles (gravljus) was just beginning to take hold among wealthy urban families, influenced by the Catholic countries to the south. The artist has documented this cultural transition as well.

The UK Government is knowingly poisoning the public with fluoride. Legalised in 1985 under Margaret Thatcher. This was two years after Judge Lord Jauncey (Scotland) ruled that fluoride in drinking water is a medicine.

Joy Warren is taking legal action, since all other routes have failed. If the US can rethink fluoride, so can the UK.
