The Clubhouse kept their winning ways going back in action for their first slate of games in July against CBC Baseball.

The first three innings consisted of a pitchers duel for both teams but The Clubhouse’s starter Parker Bauknecht out pitched CBC’s starting pitcher tossing four scoreless frames. Bauknecht also had the strikeout pitch working for him in his four innings of work with nine total punch outs. He now leads The Clubhouse in innings pitched (19.1), wins (3), opponent batting average (.230) and strikeouts (32).

Clubhouse got on the board in the 4th inning following a lead-off double from Julius Rodriguez and a single from Santi Busot, Kyle Koslin sent a ball into right field for a sacrifice fly RBI. Marcello Cortale then ripped a hard ground ball into center for a single to keep the momentum going. Following an RBI ground out by Brady McMurd, Jace Pask placed a line drive into center for an RBI single to make it a 3-0 lead!

The Clubhouse would plate three more runs in the 5th inning taking advantage of a 2-out error committed by the CBC second baseman. Instead of a three up three down inning The Clubhouse created more traffic on the base paths as Rodriguez stole second before Busot knocked him in on an opposite field single. Kyle Koslin then ran into a ball that was sent deep into left field for an RBI double. Cortale swapped places with Koslin on second base with an RBI double of his own to put a cap on his three hit game! Cortale and Pask are now tied for the team lead in XBH’s (3) and RBI’s (11).

Things got a little sticky for Clubhouse in the bottom of the 5th when Brant Hayward was called on in relief. After walking the first batter Hayward forced a slow grounder that had the potential to be a double play but instead ended up being an infield error. A strikeout and two more walks would follow. Finally after two unearned runs were allowed Hayward was replaced by the reliable Zach Kelly.

Not missing a beat Zach Kelly came up clutch yet again, striking out the next batter on three pitches to escape the jam. Kelly would also work the 6th where he surrendered a hit by pitch then blew away two of the next three hitters on strikes to close it out and lock down a 6-2 victory!

Had a great tournament at WWBA with @TheClubhouseBa3 against some really good competition. I was pleased to finish the week 8-12 with 5 RBIs, 5 runs, 6 walks, and an 1.444 OPS. I also contributed defensively cutting down the go ahead run in the last inning of my final game.

SBA Clubhouse began play in the Perfect Game WWBA National Championship tournament in Atlanta Georgia in their first of five pool play games on Saturday morning against the Fort Bend Texans.

The first couple of innings for both Parker Baunknecht (The Clubhouse starting pitcher) and Herman Hernandez (Texans starting pitcher) were a bit bumpy. However the main difference between Baunknecht and Hernandez during their respective starts was Hernandez never settled in.

Hernandez’s command struggled right out of the gate as he nailed Logan Chalk in his right knee. Two batters later following a Kyle Koslin single, Marcello Cortale took one off his lat that ended up leaving a pretty gnarly battle mark. Andrew Ward promptly drew a walk to score the first run and Jace Pask would join the party with an RBI single to extend the advantage to 2-0. The Clubhouse would also plate a pair of runs in the second that was capped off with a Logan Chalk 2-run triple!

Parker Baunknecht showcased a flawless and overwhelmingly dominant second inning performance striking out the side with two of those three swinging. Baunknecht would finish his day after 3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K.

The Clubhouse busted out ten total hits against the Texans in their 8-3 victory with two coming from the hot bats of Colin Keirns and Kyle Koslin who combined for four hits and two RBI’s. Koslin was also a perfect 2-2 in the caught stealing category.

This particular tournament features 428 teams from in and out of country. There are 6 teams per pool that play each other in non-elimination games and the scoring mechanism in order to advance beyond pool play counts the overall team record first and then the amount of runs a team surrenders. This means that even if The Clubhouse finishes their games with a record of 4-0-1 and scores 50 runs it wouldn’t give them a guaranteed spot in bracket play. The Clubhouse pitching and defense will have to be sharp if they plan on advancing to bracket play beginning Thursday morning.
