Houston is getting its NHL team. 👀🏒

Deputy commissioner Bill Daly says the NHL has agreed on the framework of a transaction with the Friedkin ownership group for a 33rd franchise in Texas, with Houston currently the priority over Austin.

The timeline is the part that really stands out.

The league hopes to have definitive agreements in place as early as December 2026, and Daly says the new franchise could begin playing in the 2029-30 season.

This isn’t officially Houston’s team yet. The NHL still has to finish the process and receive final approval, and Austin remains an alternative.

But this is much further along than the usual expansion chatter.

Gary Bettman previously said the Friedkin family’s Texas project could represent roughly a $3.5 BILLION investment, including the expansion fee and construction of a new arena.

Texas already has the Dallas Stars. By 2029, it could have two NHL teams.

The death of any child is heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with everyone grieving this young girl’s loss. Our detectives have remained committed to determining exactly what happened and ensuring that the facts guide every step of this case.

This remains an active investigation. @HCSOTexas Homicide detectives are continuing to work closely with the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Any additional or amended charges will be determined as the investigation progresses and the appropriate findings are made.

We ask that the community keep this little girl and those affected by her loss in their thoughts.

🚨 TROPICAL STORM Bertha is likely to form in the Gulf off the coast of Florida in the coming days. Spaghetti models have this storm traveling slowly west and primarily parallel with the Gulf Coast states, making landfall around New Orleans.
