Discovery and decisions should happen before and after.
The only thing that belongs in a meeting is the discussion.
Everything else is wasted time with too many people in the room.
The best product ideas are already happening awkwardly.
Look for users:
•Hacking together solutions
•Using tools in weird ways
•Copy-pasting their way to a goal
If they’re working hard to get value, they’re handing you a roadmap.
Before you build the “full” thing, prove the first thing works.
Most product ideas fail because we try to validate 5 things at once.
- Validate 1 core behavior
- If true, move to the next
- Repeat
High-confidence product building doesn’t look like an MVP you’re 50% sure about.
If you’re building too much for yourself, you’re just doing an art project.
If you’re building too much for the market, you’re just making a commodity.
Balance is key.
Which story sells better?
Option 1: Access a real-time dashboard to filter data and generate reports.
Option 2: Use our data to know when to sell your house.
Focusing on solving problems makes marketing stories much simpler and more compelling.
By focusing solely on solutions, you run the risk of falling victim to what Josh Wexler calls solution sickness.
Solution sickness is all about fixating on a solution and ignoring any alternative ways of solving a problem.

Then along came Postmates, DoorDash, Uber Eats, who said, "Let's deliver for any restaurant." And just like that, they blew the market wide open. Of course, these tactics apply to all kinds of startups, but seeing them play out in the marketplace arena is especially fascinating.
Setting up a B2C or B2B company is a walk in the park compared to the challenge of launching a marketplace.
It's not just about having a cool product or a game-changing service. You've got to juggle supply and demand like a pro, and that juggle never stops.
