.@Facebook’s latest PR stunt is in @USATODAY, where @sherylsandberg claims @Facebook is helping small businesses weather the COVID-19 pandemic.
That will be news to the entrepreneurs whose lives @Facebook has been destroying.
Last week, @Facebook rolled out a new website dedicated to the awesomeness of its data centers (really).
But they left out how these data centers are subsidized by taxpayers.
In his latest Boondoggle newsletter, @Pat_Garofalo sets the record straight 👇

This one hits hard. I and other parents of teens have long complained about the devastating effect Instagram can have on so many youth.
Now @WSJ has the receipts that Facebook knew for years that Instagram has been on boil on youth culture.

Here’s the clip.
As new @WSJ reporting reveals and as Jane explains, Mark Zuckerberg misled @cathymcmorris when asked about research into the ways social media giants like @Facebook and @Instagram harm kids and teens.

Information monopolies couldn't care less how their profits affect real-world human lives. Their business model is predicated on keeping us addicted to the most outrageous content possible, no matter the consequences. https://t.co/huLYSiEUxN
.@Facebook and @Google have a dangerous duopoly over digital advertising. They use it to gut local news and squash competitors.
Until they are broken up, they will always operate this way — it's just what power does.

When @Facebook snuck around disclosure requirements to buy Giphy last year, federal regulators were asleep at the switch.
Luckily, we now have strong leadership from @linakhanFTC's team -- and a chance for real accountability for Big Tech monopolies. https://t.co/wqMMxIceAq
Thank you @linakhanFTC for leading the @FTC to re-file its case against @Facebook & sending a clear signal to *all* Big Tech companies that their days of illegal monopolization practices are numbered. 👏

The @FTC's refiling of its case against @Facebook sends a clear signal to Big Tech monopolies: government will no longer be bullied.

The tech giants that refuse to massively address their ALGORITHMS of misinformation will have millions of peoples blood on their hands...

This bill builds upon bipartisan efforts led by state legislatures across the country, and will help break the power that Google has over small app developers. https://t.co/WxKB3n5xNA
"Facebook isn’t protecting privacy. It’s not even protecting its advertisers. It’s protecting itself from scrutiny and accountability." #BreakUpBigTech https://t.co/2SJDPIcstV
It’s no surprise that Facebook is letting the fossil fuel industry spread misinformation and bolster Big Oil propaganda.
This is where Big Tech meets the climate crisis. The message can’t be clearer: We need to #BreakUpFacebook now.

Facebook defended the decision with a blog titled: "Research Cannot Be the Justification for Compromising People's Privacy."
Considering FB's entire business model is to sell as much user info as possible, apparently profit trumps research in its hierarchy of noble causes.
