@TheOracleBen@TheOracleBen no wasn’t consulted I’d would have hoped they would have kept to the original 3 nights and some 5 dog heats because of lower number of entries. Thanks for flagging this.
Lovely afternoon at @TowcesterOffice for the British Bred Final looked after really well. Great food and rosettes and photo to keep as mementoes. So important to make owners feel valued. Result was what I expected always was going to be hard against some incredible dogs. Lottie the only bitch and oldest in the race did us proud getting into a cat 1 final. She’s my superstar ❤️. Well done Memphis ran a great race.

Action was taken straight after the second incident you missed my point I’m concerned about how we prevent this happening again at any track clearly the issue was because of lack of maintenance and the board are reviewing all traps with tracks with a focus on how they are maintained. People should be bothered about my view I’m on the board to represent owners and pushed for a review of traps at all tracks.
Trap failures
As owner practitioner director I want to give my view on what happened at Sunderland. As an owner it was awful to see the dogs put at risk thankfully no dog was seriously injured. My other concern was for the staff standing in front of the traps because if the traps had opened early it could have resulted in serious injury to them. The early report from Sunderland backs up my assessment of what was at fault compromised air pressure. I’ve managed a business reliant on pneumatic systems for 47 years so can offer an insight in best practices in terms of general and preventative maintenance methodology. So I’m pleased I will be on the team doing the review of traps at the GBGB. I would also like to reassure everyone that the GBGB took this issue seriously and the GBGB board did discuss this at length in our meeting on Wednesday in London.
I’ve investigated incidents on many occasions and a couple of my early pre review observations are when traps are checked the flag should be waved at the side of the traps and reduces the time in front of the traps, some tracks already operate that operation and Oxford have done this for some time. The other area for improvement is to look at ways to fill the gap between trap gates this was the route dogs took and caused them to become trapped. I think Sunderland acted quickly to investigate the cause and bought in the appropriate support to help that investigation. People have said Sunderland should have been penalised but they will have suffered significant financial cost with racing being suspended so they already have been penalised. Whilst it’s sad to see this I’m confident some good will come from this in the long term. A review of traps and an agreed best practice on planned preventative maintenance hopefully will reduce the risk of this happening.
As always please let me know if you have any suggestions about what I should raise at our review.
@HjDimmock@SALACRES@PhilMilner I agree but I’ll keep banging the drum so that welfare is a higher priority across the whole sport especially at tracks.
Yes you’re right and I’ve challenged and it’s being dealt with. In the rules we have no definition of what an owner is therefore no criteria for who can vote. This is being defined but staff changes on the regulation team have delayed it. It’s frustrating but I’m pushing for the definition to be included in the rule book. I mentioned it again at today’s board meeting.
I’m conscious it’s a while since I’ve updated on my Owner Practitioner Director role . I’m writing the Monday column for the racing post. This will give an overview of my first few months and the issues I’m dealing with. I also want to share my frustrations as an owner at present. I’ve always said I’m happy for anyone to contact me direct for help and support which lots of owners have. I will post my article on social media on Monday.
On train back from another board meeting owners rep making very good contributions to all those out there asking about British bred problems he’s battling hard for you !!! It’s not a negative journey home today
