Nearly 25 years ago I walked into WQAD as an eager, wide eyed, and probably unprepared intern. I knew very little. The ONE thing I did know was that this is something I always wanted to do.
I grew up right here in the Quad Cities flipping channels as fast as I could as a kid. I'd go from Thom Cornelius/Dan Pearson to Don Sharp to Dan Burich as fast as I could to get as much local sports as I could. I couldn't get enough. And for a quarter century I lived and breathed local sports. I've been beyond blessed.
But here's the thing - that 20 year old intern has turned into a 45 year old happily married father of 4 extremely busy boys. Seems like it happened overnight.
My time at WQAD is coming to an end. I've got 3 weeks left. My final show will be November 10th.
There's several reasons why it's time. But there's no 4 better reasons than those aforementioned boys of mine. Being a dad is hands down my most important job in life. My wife is an absolute rockstar. She's gladly allowed me to do what I love. But it's time to get off work before 11pm every night and work a few less Saturdays.
It's also time for some new challenges. I try to teach my boys that the best things you'll do in life are outside your comfort zone. Well - after 25 years - I've gotten pretty comfy at WQAD.
I'm super excited about the future and opportunities ahead. I won't be a stranger to QC sports. More on that soon.
There are SO many thank you's to give and memories to share. That's what these next 3 weeks are all about. Let's have some fun along the way. It's been one heck of a ride!
It was anything but a typical Friday night at the ballpark for the Bettendorf Pleasant Valley (BPV) Senior Baseball League. The league paid tribute to the man who ran the league for years, Steve Tappa.
