#ISA2024 in SanFran has taken off, and I am excited to talk all things global queer politics with dear colleagues from around the world. Yesterday, I kicked it off by presenting a paper on the legitimacy of enforcing European integration in times of dissensus on LGBT equality.
Today, I started as a visiting researcher at the research unit Atelier Genre(s) et Sexualité(s) at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. I am very much looking forward to the next 4.5 months in Brussels surrounded by inspiring colleagues.
In the coming months, I will begin an analysis of how EU institutions legitimize a supranational response to increased dissent regarding and partial rollback of LGBT equality in individual member states.
Equal parts proud and relieved after my midseminar, where I defended the first 50 % of my PhD with insightful comments from Lars Vetle Handeland, Ted Svensson and the rest of @pol_LU. Now there's just another 50 % to go 💪🏼
Dear X-sphere! I'll be relocating to Brussels in January 2024 to be a visiting researcher for approx 5 months at Atelier Genre(s) et Sexualité(s), ULB. This means, I'm looking for a place to stay in or around Brussels. If you know of anything/anyone, please reach out! Thank you!
An absolute joy having @kslootmaeckers present at the higher research seminar at @pol_LU today. About queer politics in EU enlargement and why we should keep on questioning whether and who the EU's helping through promotion of LGBT equality.
We kicked off with our EUROGLOT themed track @UACES conference, Panel 101: Queering and Gendering the EUropean Project: On (Dis)Integration, (Homo)Nationalism and External #uaces2023
My argument being that instead trying to master and contain such dissensus, we need to think more carefully about how the EU's promotion and enforcement of LGBT equality actually reinforce and fuel such contestation with negative, counterproductive consequences for queer people.
What a privilege to present my work at such an important @UACES panel on gendering and queering the EUropean project. Thank you to @kslootmaeckers and the audience for their helpful comments and questions!
I presented a theoretical analysis of normative theories of European integration, looking at how they respond and seek to contain dissensus over the EU's fundamental values, such as in debates over LGBT equality.
