I like Kobbie Mainoo, he's got world class potential but I perspectiveis needed, this won't be popular, but its some points to consider:
The fans blowing smoke up his arse can never complain about player power again, never speak about players moaning about gametime or holding the club to ransom and never complain about ego's of young players - your causing it.
Garnacho turned out the way he did partly due to fans blowing smoke up his arse from day 1 and overhyping him. Kobbie like Garnacho started games mainly due to a lack of other good options in their position, our squad building had been shit the last 10 years and both players have broken into the 1st team without having to earn it.
And fans got used to it. 1st team performing badly, throw a youth player in, 2 good games, "world class".. the bar is so low..
Now, when a manager is saying you have to earn it, earn your spot, play better, all of a sudden thats a huge problem?
Kobbie played loads last season, when he wasnt INJURED or recovering from injury; he was starting games and getting loads of minutes. Nobody can lie about this fact as its written in fact on every statistical website.
The other fact is we lost 85% of the games Kobbie started in midfield and he made plenty of mistakes leading to goals, not tracking men, being dispossessed or being caught out of position (But remember we dont talk about that because he's a youth player and not Bruno, Case or Ugarte) - he gets a free pass.
Fans saying we should sack a manager if he cant fit Kobbie in, change the formation to suit Kobbie, build the team around Kobbie are quite frankly deluded. He's a kid thats spent half of the last 2 seasons injured. He's a kid thats still developing and learning how to influence games.
By all means, when he shows he can play 90's minutes consistently without being injured then go for it...
But putting that much pressure on a kid at Manchester United nowadays, this isnt Fergies era, thats long gone. He isnt young Rooney walking into a team of winners. Its too much hype, too much pressure and it will only destroy him - see EVERY other youth players thats broken through in the last 10 years.
Young players are being asked too much and all the statistics show that u21's are getting more injured than ever due to this, Saka, Gavi, Camavinga, Lavia are just a few recent examples that spring to mind of young players being battered by injuries. We dont want Kobbie to suffer the same fate as Jack Wilshere who had world class potential but injuries destroyed his career. Like it or not his minutes need managing carefully which is EXACTLY what Ruben did last season.
At 20 years old, with barely 40-50 senior games under his belt, struggling to impose himself in the majority of games the last 12 months he needs to be carefully managed and time to develop. His agent right now is not doing him any favours, his fans are not doing him any favours.
Personally I don't mind if he goes on loan and comes back, I'm not as dramtic as some fans that are talking like this is some apocalyptic moment. Unfortunately having left it so late I don't think there is much chance of this happening now so his agent has set him up for a fail. In the end its just another chess move by the agent to get Kobbie a bigger and better contract.
If Ruben stays, Kobbie needs to knuckle down, learn from Bruno, Case and Ugarte and earn his spot, let his body build and recover and be ready when called upon. If Ruben goes then who knows, the next manager might fancy him, might not. But at no point should a manager be forced to play someone just because they are from the academy and just because they show potential.
We spent years battling player power, we've spent years saying the manager has to have total say and now we want to flip flop back to bend over backwards and give Kobbie everything he wants... guarenteed minutes... massive contract etc etc. You wont change the culture, until you change the fucking culture!
@thisisrory my vinyl hasn't shipped yet and I'm not able to get any response from the email on the website - can someone please reach out about my order? thanks
De Ligts goal gets disallowed for a push by Yoro which was pathetic but Dessers pushes Maguire with equal strength and it gets allowed.
Make it make sense.
