@jonesvibesonly Well, no. The trailer paints the picture for what the audience will see. A critic writes a critical appraisal of the film — looking at the film in the context of itself and the context of movies in general and in the context of the culture it’s made in/for.
@SloppyJoe_y@NottBenry If you haven’t, give a listen to the cast album of the Anything Goes revival she starred in. She sounds incredible and I don’t think you’ll find so much of what you’re describing.
@tmulcahey@elaine_stritch Came here to say exactly this
Unlike anything ever on a Broadway stage, and that includes “Hellfire” when Hunchback is finally on Broadway

@MarkNYC64@FeldmanAdam She is amazing in Muriel’s Wedding. Truly. But it’s worth noting she had an Oscar nomination for Sixth Sense just before she did Wild Party. She still wasn’t a big name but had achieved a lot. Wild Party out her in higher level for me but sadly she’s never done a musical since
@MarkNYC64@FeldmanAdam I’d have given Tonys to Toni, Mandy, and Eartha. Even over the amazing people who won that year. I also would have given Tonya a nomination for it. And George C Wolfe a nom for directing. And it would have easily won Best Score and Musical. I hope this production launches it anew
@PeteAscolese It’s not like she won for plays in the 1960s… ok I’ll acknowledge her wins for a short run/difficult Sondheim show and a revival of a show very associated with its original male star doesn’t help (but does she know who Yul is?) But Donna’s done so much she would/should also know
@PeteAscolese To leave out 1994 Carousel (not only the revival of revivals but a Tony winner for Best Revival rightfully beating the Damn Yankees revival) … is unfathomable.
@Queerty I thought this was a queer news and culture site… posting *articles* around single tik toks of random people telling hook up stories, with a written out recap of the tik tok as the article, is insane.
