@sarobertson_ The reality is that most of Carney's Davos speech was just empty talk, and the US knows that. Flattering Trump and trying to compete for his favour is the strategy that world leaders will always run with.
@atrupar No world leaders really push back against Trump even though their populations largely hate him. They'll continue to kiss his ass, flatter him, and act like everything is fine. It's sad that we all have to sit here and act like the US administration is normal and rational.
@RepTenney It was done in response to the unjustified, massive tariffs Trump has imposed on key Canadian industries, dummy. THAT is what is not fair trade. And the bans won't be lifted until a deal is made. Although I suspect most people still won't buy it because of your moron president.
@Gray_Mackenzie Hoekstra is really making backhanded quips and throwing shade at Canadians right now? Does he think that's going to help the relationship? Seriously, screw this guy. He is an extension of the moron DJT. More than 80% of Canadians agree he is not welcome in the country.
@RobertFife If it weren't for oil sales, the US would have a trade surplus with Canada. The obsession with eliminating "trade deficits" is silly from an economic perspective. I see the Trump administration continues to truck along using economic illiteracy as their foundational pillar.
@TomPark1n His goal, apparently, is to make Canadians understand that the US didn't do anything wrong, Canada has behaved badly, and the US is disappointed in them but is willing to give them another chance out of the goodness of their hearts. π€‘
@sarobertson_ I mean, Trump has said far worse about Canada than the comments Vassy read. It's the general nastiness, disrespect, and attitude that Canada is trash and that Canada owes the US massively. This administration is no friend and no ally to Canada.
@sarobertson_ Oh, gee, that's a relief, because Canadians are desperate to maintain the NORAD relationship with the US these days. Thank you for reassuring us, master. π
@RpsAgainstTrump You can't force someone to respect you through coercion. They either respect you or they don't. As it happens, very few people genuinely respect Trump.
@sarobertson_ Think what you want of Hunter Biden, but he's not wrong here. He's actually bang on and I haven't seen anyone else speak this truth. There do need to be changes in the US to ensure that one president cannot cause this kind of wrecking-ball damage around the globe ever again.
@RpsAgainstTrump Based on what? He doesn't even have the authority to impose instant, unrestricted tariffs anymore! He has to go through a long process and the tariff amount is limited.
@sarobertson_ Stubb is starting to sound like Mark Rutte. We don't need more Trump flattery and toadyism, but that's apparently too much to ask even for world leaders who we thought had a backbone.
@josh_wingrove There's nothing unfair about the arrangement given that Canada paid for the entire bridge. But Trump sees this as an opportunity to screw Canada over by extorting concessions to make it lopsided in favour of the US. It will taint the bridge opening and further damage relations.
@sarobertson_ This guy is full of it. The first thing Trump did when he got into office was hit Canada with fentanyl tariffs, which were based on a lie. Then he added an additional 10%, and another 10%, again targeted towards Canada for their supposed "bad behaviour". Total BS.
@RonFilipkowski He's so STUPID, my goodness. How do you still think that threats and pressure are going to get you results in this Iran situation? The guy is a human wrecking ball.
@RpsAgainstTrump There is no concrete evidence for Trump's vandalism claims. The Olympian who was arrested denies any vandalism. Who would put it past him to make up a story in order to cover up a renovation gone wrong? I wouldn't.
@RpsAgainstTrump@grok Trying to imply that being pro-Trump gets a foreign leader's numbers up is absolutely laughable. It's actually quite the opposite. Trump is not popular around the world; he is hated.
