Safe emergency general surgery—@asgbi statement
➡️https://t.co/JavvtVQhBh
The EGS Steering Group of the @asgbi designed a prospective cross-sectional snapshot survey using a modified Delphi method to cover four areas: hospital infrastructure, EGS workload, surgical workforce and resource availability
Recommendations for safe and efficient EGS care:
1⃣Safe staffing levels are essential, defined by EGS admissions and inpatient volume, not hospital size
2⃣Patient pathways for all stages of the EGS patient journey should be universally incorporated
3⃣EGS services should be available and contracted 24/7
4⃣ There should be a lead clinician for EGS with allocated contracted time

Introducing our new cohort of Editorial fellows.
Brett Doleman is Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham. His PhD was awarded in 2017 where he developed novel meta-analysis methodology in the area of acute postoperative pain. #anaesthesia#perioperative
Supply of anaesthetists is constrained by inadequate numbers of training places and poor retention.
This year, there were 3,520 applications for an available 540 core anaesthetic training places and 640 applications for 390 higher training places.
Looking for healthcare professionals involved in the perioperative care of older adults to participate in our Delphi study exploring exercise prehabilitation and post operative cognition.
