Today I told my PI I didn’t think I had the time to do all the tasks needed for our studies & stay sane.

He agreed that it was too much & asked what we could do to reduce the workload.

@TheMaybeJamie @bcshaffer As someone how just bought the highest range non-Tesla in the list (the Kona), I can tell you it costs about the same as a Ford F-150 XLT, which seems like the most popular vehicle out there. Vehicles are expensive, EV or ICE, but the masses seem to keep buying them!

@RobertCMahon Back in the day, when I was a consulting groscientist, the ONLY vehicles we used were Toyota 4Runners (circa 1995 versions). The new RAV4s reminded me a lot of those reliable beasts. If I needed to do serious fieldwork, that’s what I would go for. ESP. Ow there is a hybrid.

@mchernos @WaterSHEDLab @RobertCMahon Don’t know yet (only 3 weeks in so far). But Hyundai/Kia systems have liquid heated/cooled battery packs which should address the issue with the air cooled Nissan Leaf batteries. There is even a winter mode that warms the battery up to be ready for a pre determined depart time.

@mchernos @WaterSHEDLab @RobertCMahon Saw a BMW i3 doing crazy donuts on Mount Seymour Parkway this winter during a snowstorm...at 10 km/hr. I have to assume they were the low rolling resistance tires. We will definitely be going for proper winter boots for our Kona.
