From my archive of projects that never went anywhere:
I wanted to create a simple "found object" map of Chicago, so I combined a tablecloth with a blue vinyl record.
You can chat to me about Turkiye and Czechia all you want…
But Uruguay failing to get out of a group containing Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde in a World Cup where 8/12 3rd-place teams progress is comfortable the biggest underachievement of the tournament.
Hideous campaign.
It's sort of funny that in the US they market the World Cup as though it's a wide open, Wild West tournament where any country could win when in reality it just sort of rotates between Argentina, Italy, Germany, France, and Brazil for the most part
soccer obsessives watching the World Cup: "I'm not sure the manager has them in the right formation to maximize the inventiveness of their wingers based on what we've seen in the Eredivisie"
me: "I think Messi & the big Norwegian lad are gonna score"
and we're both right!
just learned two things from a pair of bengali guys in the gym changing room:
1. it is possible to passionately disagree about the subject of air fryers
2. there is no bengali word for air fryer
DAVE LETTERMAN: Paul, you watching the World Cup?

DAVE LETTERMAN: Right now, the hookers in Times Square are offering a FIFA special. For an extra $5, you get a three-minute hydration break.
PAUL SHAFFER: *plays opening of "Seven Nation Army"*
