ICYMI: A former Illinois teacher accused of helping Tren de Aragua members carry out a 2024 mass shooting in Chicago has now been removed from the U.S. by @ICEgov.

According to @DHSgov, Giovanna Mercedes Moreno Occhipinti, a 32-year-old illegal immigrant from Venezuela with dual Italian citizenship, allegedly drove the two Tren de Aragua shooters involved in the December 2024 house party mass shooting in Chicago that left three people dead and several others injured.

Authorities say Chicago police recovered multiple weapons from Moreno Occhipinti’s vehicle immediately after the shooting and believe she helped the two suspected shooters evade law enforcement.

Chicago police arrested Moreno Occhipinti on Dec. 5, 2024, on weapons charges, but DHS says Chicago sanctuary officials released her without notifying ICE. After the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office declined to move forward with prosecution, HSI Chicago arrested her on May 13, 2026. ICE’s Chicago Field Office has now confirmed she has been removed from the United States.

According to DHS, Moreno Occhipinti entered the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program in October 2021 and was required to depart by Jan. 2, 2022, but remained in the country illegally.

DHS also says the two alleged shooters, Ricardo Granadillo Padilla and Edward Martinez Cermeno, had previously been arrested and deported before allegedly returning to the United States.
