CCP supporters surrounded a lone protester and attacked him, trying to smother him in the Chinese flag. I tried to help him at which point a CCP supporter elbowed me in the face in full view of a police officer. They did nothing - they only targeted us.

Police forced us to leave at which point an elderly CCP supporter spat on us. Again, this occurred in full view of the police and my footage includes the sound of her spitting. Again, they did nothing. We were the only ones forced to leave and the only ones targeted by police.

I was given a second ''move on'' order banning me from the entire King's Park precinct for 24 hours at pain of 12 months imprisonment and a $12,000 fine. My only crime was filming.

Trade with China is massive in Australia so all levels of government in Australia as well as big business are completely in support of a Finlandisation policy whereby civil society criticism of the Chinese government is repressed in favour of protecting business ties.

Looking at the level of violence by pro China protesters in Australia and I’m increasing concerned that we are letting the supporters of authoritarian states and movements dominate too many of our public spaces.

Tibet, Hong Kong folks should be able to protest safely. I understand police want to control escalation but that’s gone too far and they shouldn’t be pushing around folks like @veryvickyxu, we’ve passed the boundary into censoring people to keep the peace when we should be cracking down on the violent.

It’s not ok to tell someone they can’t protest China in Australia. It’s not ok to tell Jews not to come to the Opera House. It’s the duty of our law enforcement officers to ensure public spaces are safe for everyone.
