BREAKING: In a historic 6-3 ruling, the justices said for the first time that former presidents have absolute immunity from prosecution for their official acts and no immunity for unofficial acts.
But rather than do it themselves, the justices ordered lower courts to figure out precisely how to apply the decision to Trump’s case.

Borders with Slovenia closed until the end of 2024, from Friuli Venezia Giulia high the guard on immigration and terrorism
Minister Piantedosi speaks of 'key months' but says no to the restoration of Schengen in Fvg
04:00
Borders closed at least until the end of the year between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Slovenia. Record of rejections compared to what was the previous situation and the hope - word of minister - to restore free movement based on the Schengen Treaty by 2025. There are two important details: it is at the moment 'only' a hope and there is no apparent chance that this will happen in advance of the end of the year. Not after the summer, then. The times extend well beyond the forecasts anticipated even months ago after a summit in Rome chaired by the same minister - Matteo Piantedosi (Interior) - who yesterday morning in Gorizia reiterated that the closure of the borders is still necessary.
THE MEETING
The trilateral meeting with Slovenia and Croatia gave birth to a first piece of news, given by Minister Matteo Piantedosi: 'The hope - he said - is to be able to restore the free movement of people at the border in 2025'. Then the owner of the Interior Ministry spoke of 'crucial months', alluding to the next ones. The stop to the Schengen Treaty was decreed by Rome after the Hamas attacks on Israel on 7 October. The legislation internal to the treaty itself provides for a maximum suspension of up to two years. But France, 'playing' on the restoration followed by other stops, has in fact said goodbye to Schengen since 2015. 'What we hope will not happen with us too,' explained the Regional Councilor for Security, Pierpaolo Roberti. In the meantime, however, the checks at the crossings between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Slovenia will continue even after the summer and throughout the autumn. It will continue until the end of the year, with a view to 2025.
THE DATA
"The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region - said President Massimiliano Fedriga - has made available, within the limits of its competences and obviously in agreement Slovenia and Croatia, its capabilities, therefore the Civil Protection and the instruments at its disposal, to further increase the possibilities of border control. As far as migratory flows are concerned, the numbers exposed by the Minister of the Interior this year show a clear improvement compared to the past: in Friuli Venezia Giulia the 1,800 rejections have already been exceeded, while before the introduction of border controls, therefore on October 21, 2023, we had a maximum of 80-90 readmissions per year. In addition, the increase in arrests of human traffickers has resulted in a reduction in the number of migrants that the regional territory is called upon to manage: in the Cara di Gorizia there are currently about 300 people, numbers far from the 800 of the past. The situation is much more manageable, although it is necessary to always keep your guard high because these are phenomena that can change very quickly. I am therefore grateful to Minister Piantedosi for taking effective measures that are giving concrete results. Thanks to the interventions of the government, Friuli Venezia Giulia has enjoyed a strengthening for border control especially with regard to the State Police, which is flanked in the surveillance action by the Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza crossings, in addition to the personnel of the Army. In the summer months, which are the most delicate, there will therefore be a further strengthening.'
