My Teal pic was voted 'Photo of the Year' in @BirdGuides 2023 poll, and announced in this month's edition of 'Birdwatch' magazine! π―π
Rarely win anything, so I'm delighted! π

@CarlBovisNature Beautiful Photo Carl.
I had terrible jobs for years just like you. Sometimes I'd sit in the carpark not wanting to go in. I feel for you. With me after 30 years of crummy jobs my dream job came up.
I hope this happens for you. Keep your chin up, so many people respect you π
@CarlBovisNature Carl, I'm doing a photography certificate and if one day I could take photos even half as good as you do I'd be very happy.
Your bird photo's are world class. I and so many other people love them. I hope one day you make a motza and buy your dream home.ππ
I'm a bit fed up.
I work so hard with my little business, things that go unnoticed by everyone, but have got to be done.
I need Twitter, but Twitter makes being seen much harder than it ever has been.
Earlier I posted a link to my new blog post & asked for opinions on it... out of 182,000 followers, guess how many took a look?
44.
No-one gave their opinion..
I don't blame my followers, who have always been incredibly supportive of me & my photography, I blame Twitter for making it so hard for creators to be seen.
It never used to be like this.
I was looking at tweets I posted back in 2021... despite half the following that I have now, I was regularly getting 2 times the level of engagement than I am getting now..
My replies are full of spam and bots, I never got them before.... Elon took away my Legacy Verified tick because it was 'the only way to tackle the bots'....
A lie. Things have got 10 times worse on that front..
It was all about monetizing Twitter & promoting his own political agenda.
I now pay for Twitter. I have no choice unless I want my engagement to fall even further.
From a business point of view, a fall in views equals a fall in sales which equals a fall in revenue... I'm tired of constantly trying to think of new ways to have my content viewed.
Every Friday, I've started asking my followers to retweet a specific photo, to help to beat the restrictive algorithm... I hate having to do this!
I know from feedback that followers who have lost contact with my account find me again thanks to the extra impressions the retweets bring... it shouldn't be this hard!
Sometimes I wonder why I bother.
My bird business was started in 2019, and it allowed me and my family to dream of being able to move out of our little shared ownership 'starter' home that we've been in for 32 years, and save enough to put a deposit down for our own home finally, something we could never have done with the wages from my stressful day job, they only just covered the household bills.
Any profits from my business are saved with this dream in mind, after working all day and all evening, my partner often asks if it's 'worth all the effort', and I reply it will be one day, when we can finally move, to which she replies 'the only place we'll be moving into is a wooden box... π We're not getting any younger..
I don't feel guilty about earning from my photography, or for sharing my Ko-fi account so people can 'buy me a coffee' if they want to support me... that might seem like a strange thing to say, but some people do try and make me feel bad for it...
Millions of people all over the world earn from the talents they have... I'm useless at everything, but I can take a nice bird photo. I'm not saying that's a talent, but people seem to like them, and it's the only thing I can do, so I'm trying to use this capability to improve the circumstances for my family ... what's so bad about that?
I'm just exhausted and very tired, I haven't slept well since Christmas which may explain my current melancholy mood... if you've read this far, you're a genuinely kind follower... thank you!
I have to continue on Twitter, my main following is here, I'll just carry on trying to think of new ways to be seen...
