While it would take until 2022 for Manchester City to top the football world in revenues, their growth during the years they were breaching rules was huge.
In 2008-09, the last before the disguised funding scheme commenced, City’s £87million revenue was just 25 per cent of Real Madrid’s. Nine years later that figure was 75 per cent, and City were football’s fifth-highest earners. Strip out the £135m in 'disguised funding' that year, and they would have been 10th.
In part two of our series looking into the financial scandal, @CWeatherspoon_ explains how City's commercial operation mushroomed and had a profound effect on the club.
