Drops May 2nd. Pub Weekly says: "Klingborg does an exceptional job of illuminating Xi Jinping’s China to outside observers without being pedantic or heavy-handed." #corruption#sex#politics#china#XiJinping#NorthKorea https://t.co/sWsBE4N0jv
@Surfside_living Glad you liked it! There are two more in the series, although only available in the US editions: Wild Prey (about the exotic animal trade) and The Magistrate. Thanks for your support!
@ZhaiXiang5@xixueguijinghu1@NasserHadjloo Sorry that’s ridiculous. And you refuse to grant any self determination to Taiwanese citizens. I’m not sure whether CCP propaganda is your business or you truly believe it. Either way, I’m moving along now. I’ll continue to read your posts for insight into Chinese nationalism
@xixueguijinghu1@ZhaiXiang5@NasserHadjloo You know what’s a cop out? Using a pseudonym while engaging in ad hominem attacks. And your comments about Russians being better off and the US breaking up show a break from reality, this disqualifying you from a reasoned debate. Have a good day.
@xixueguijinghu1@ZhaiXiang5@RJ_Macnaughton@cafecoolo@NasserHadjloo I don’t think the Soviet breakup worked out well for Russians. And pragmatically speaking, why would the world’s #1 economic and military power split into 50 independent states? I’m not saying the US is moral and righteous. I’m just saying it makes no sense to dissolve the union
@xixueguijinghu1@ZhaiXiang5@NasserHadjloo I never said everybody in “the west.” And I didn’t start the comparisons between California and Taiwan. That was a “whataboutism” attacking my defense of Taiwan independence. And I’m sure you know how the US political system works versus China’s.
@ZhaiXiang5@xixueguijinghu1@NasserHadjloo I am also not one of those Americans who thinks our brand of democracy will work or is desirable in every country around the world. But I'm certain if you had a vote today in Taiwan to accept CCP leadership, the result be a "hell no."
@ZhaiXiang5@xixueguijinghu1@NasserHadjloo Nor have they voted for any political leader or policy in effect on the mainland. Don't misunderstand - I have great respect for the Chinese government. It has achieved economic miracles and I think many citizens are ok with trading agency for social and financial stability.
@xixueguijinghu1@ZhaiXiang5@RJ_Macnaughton@cafecoolo@NasserHadjloo Agree, the US's democratic system is at a crisis point. The current president is himself an insurrectionist. I'm not sure we will survive the next 4 years. But there are still many of us who value democratic principles, even when our political opponents do not.
@RJ_Macnaughton@cafecoolo@ZhaiXiang5@xixueguijinghu1@NasserHadjloo Authoritarian governments remain in power by cultivating misperceptions about the value of democracy. Your graphs don't mean much. And please describe for me China's democratic process in which they listen to what people want.
